Hi I am looking for any help tracing Patrick O'Hara who married Margaret Corrigan in Cavan . They had Thomas 1869, Mary 1870[Fermanagh] Ann1871[Holywell] and Patrick 1872 before they arrived in England along with Patrick's mother Catherine.
Thanks for reading this and any information about the family would be welcome.

Hello,
Do you have the marriage details? That would give you his father's name, hopefully.
Is that your family in 1881 in Middlesbrough? Do they give those places of birth in other censuses?
Regards
Heywood

hi
Sorry but that is what I am hoping to find the marriage of Patrick and Margaret.

How do you know they married in Cavan, if you don't have the marriage.
Do the children give those places of birth in English censuses? As I wrote, I have found a family in Middlesbrough in 1881 but no indication on that census of county of birth.

Hi Heywood
I am only going by Thomas the eldest child who on the 1901 census stated that he was born in Cavan Ireland .

There is this possibility but not Cavan:
1868. Carrick-on-Shannon volume 8 pg 45
Patrick O'Hara and Margaret Kerrigan are on the same page but of course not necessarily married to each other.

The marriage actually took place in County Leitrim, but no surprise since all the action here is on the Cavan / Leitrim county border.
Patrick O'Hara married Margaret Kerrigan on 2 March 1868. Bachelor Patrick was as a farmer living in the townland of Sruhanagh (in the civil parish of Killinagh, County Cavan) here:

Spinster Margaret Kerrigan was an 18 year old farmer's daughter living in the townland of Derrinwillin (in the civil parish of Drumreilly, County Leitrim) which you can see if you pan a bit SW of Sruhanagh. Or this link will take you directly:

The marriage took place at Ballinagleragh RC Church in the townland of Drumnafinnila (also in the civil parish of Drumreilly, County Leitrim) which you can see if you pan a bit SSE of Derrinwillin. Or this link will take you directly:

Patrick's father was Charles O'Hara, a farmer, Margaret's father was Patrick Kerrigan, a farmer. The marriage witnesses were John Curnan and Catherine O'Hara. Griffith's Valuation shows a Charles O'Hara in Sruhanagh and several Keerekans in Derrywillin, local print date 1856-57.

Gaffy - you are wonderful :D
I know they are bordering counties but Carrick on Shannon is not that close - if I recall. ???
-
The marriage was registered at Drumshanbo Sub-district within Carrick-on-Shannon District, about 10 miles away from the church.

Can't see a birth / baptism for Thomas, can see Mary born 17 March 1870, Anne born 8 June 1871, Patrick baptised 25 August 1872, mother's surname varies between Carrigan and Kergan, the address for all was Shrufina/Shrufena, which I'm assuming is a variant of Sruhanagh, I can't see any other alternative...
There was also a Mick born to this couple on 17 September 1872.

Hello Heywood
Can you tell me if the Thomas O'Hara ( who i think might be my great grandfather) was married to Elizabeth Ann Ebden 1896 ?
Regards Denise
-
Hello Denise,
i can't see Thomas in 1901 but Jay on this thread and you on your other thread quote that he is born Cavan in 1901 so is his wife Elizabeth?
There is a marriage in 1896 on Free BMD where the two names are shown but there are another two names also.
I'll try to have another look later If no one else finds them.

Sorry found them now -transcribed as 'Cavon'.
His wife is Elizabeth and I just checked the youngest child Catherine on GRO index and it shows as Ebden.
