I would be very grateful if somebody with access to the 1871 census for Kent could look up Sophia JONES, b abt 1836 in Buckinghamshire. Hopefully she is living with a Benjamin Jones....
Many thanks to anybody who can help - this guy has been my brick wall for 10 years!

I have searched for BJ in the 1881 many, many times and have come to the conclusion that is in one of the beerhouses in Gravesend who gave all their residents as Name Not Known, Age Not Known, Occupation Not Known. Family Bible gives death date as 14 July 1881 and he was buried at St George's Gravesend (of Pocahontos fame) on the 17th. No death cert in any indexes, even "at sea". Can't find Sophia, either. It's great to have such help, though, and maybe it will all become clear in time 8)

Hi Chaters - Benjamin definitely did die in July 1881 - I saw the burial register at Maidstone RO - unfortunately his death does not seem to have been officially recorded anywhere. Apparently it's not uncommon....
Thanks for the possibles for Sophia, once I have seen these census records I may be able to narrow down the area a little bit.
Kind regards and thanks again,
Kate
