Title: Marriage St Pauls Hammersmith
Post by: chuckgaish on Tuesday 09 August 16 17:30 BST (UK)
Hi when searching for a marriage for Sarah Gaish in BMD there is not one, however there is a record on Ancestry in England select marriages for her marriage on the 27th August 1848 to a person part name of Isaac I...ions, would anyone be able to see if they could check this date entry for me.

Many thanks. ps not to be confused with her mother Sarah who remarried in 1848 in All Saints Fulham.

FindMyPast have a similar record, but that one says it's Banns, which could explain the apparent lack of a marriage entry in the indexes -  maybe they didn't follow through.

The record on Ancestry is from familysearch Film number 1966297.  It looks as though it may only be banns

St Pauls, Hammersmith
Burials, 1842-1854.
Marriage banns, 1838-1855, 1870-1877.

Looked at the original register at LMA (DD/0746/04/01)

Isaac Issions bachelor & Sarah Gaish spinster both otp

Banns read 13th, 20th and 27th of August. Nothing to suggest a marriage didn't take place

Looked at the original marriage register (DD/0746/02/005) between Feb 1847 and August 1850. No sign of any Issions or Gaishes.

Record keeping a bit sloppy from May 1849 - some entries only have signatures, no other details entered

Presumably no marriage date added in the margin as often appears against banns  :-\

No, but none of the others around it had anything like that either

No proof then that they ever married  ???   I can't see evidence of either of them yet in 1851 census. Freebmd does not appear to have anything for any 'Issions'

As worldwide searches on the 2 big name sites doesn't seem to show up very much, I'd like to attach an image for possible reinterpretation but doesn't seem to be an option at the moment

Watch this space...

I think that the reason why you could not add an attachment to this thread is because it is the "Look Up" section, which doesn't allow attachments.

The only reference to Sarah Gaish on FreeBMD (March 1847-December 1880) is the March quarter 1848 marriage in Kensington Registration District, which you say is the mother re-marrying.  And no entry for Isaac Issions at all.

Having looked at the image you have posted, I wonder why Isaac Issions' name has not been written with a long 'S' and a short 'S'? Could the second letter be something else? Perhaps an 'R'?
