That would depend on the question being asked. Can you point us at the document that you are referring to?

It was his demobilisation paper it says he is 25 11 months no date of birth but document date 15/3/1912 but on a nother paper I have says he joined at the age of 19 1904 and parish st kevin's dublin.my father told me his father william murphy was a orphen so if he was baptised in St kevin's I have done research and got it down to a posible 8 at the moment but if that's the parish he lived in he may of been baptised any were in dublin

I doubt that the army would have recorded a place of baptism. It would be either place/parish of birth or place of residence, depending on the question.

Incidentally there is a Medal Index Card for Pte W Murphy, 7743, 2/Royal Irish Rifles which shows that he also served with the Labour Corps, 411083, 2 A.E. Company. 1914 Star, qualifying date 6.8.14

This thread might be better on DUBLIN board (you've posted in Armed Forces Resources which is for resources not queries)- just click on 'report to moderator' if you want it moved to Dublin otherwise Armed Forces moderator will likely move this before too long.

Lots of Irish Catholic Church Records online (although you haven't mentioned religion). I did a very quick search for 'William Murphy' baptisms in Dublin but nothing for St. Kevin's.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

Next, I looked to see if there are online records for 'St. Kevin's' Dublin- luckily the online baptisms cover 1865-1901: http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0517

Apparently church is also known as Harrington St., so I went back to 1st site and found 3 William Murphys baptised there as well as a child with no 1st name. Have a look and see if any of the birthdates work out from the details you have so far.

The Army  normally record  local town of residence  immediately prior to joining up.

Have what  ???

It was his demobilisation paper it says he is 25 11 months no date of birth but document date 15/3/1912 but on a nother paper I have says he joined at the age of 19 1904 and parish st kevin's dublin.my father told me his father william murphy was a orphen so if he was baptised in St kevin's I have done research and got it down to a posible 8 at the moment but if that's the parish he lived in he may of been baptised any were in dublin

Do you mean 8 baptism records for St. Kevin's? if so, have another look at those results and you might find they are not all for William Murphy

You have told us so little of what you already know, and showed us nothing of the documents you want us to help you with. I am not sure how we can help you further.

Hi markamurff. Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

I have  moved your query to the main Armed Forces Board.

Going back to your original question... St Kevin's could be where he was born, or baptised, or even just where he grew up. It would be where he believed he was born and what he told the recruitment officer.

I will leave this in Armed Forces for now in case you have any further Army questions about him - but as aghadowey points out - you may be better asking people on the Dublin board for help.

Also follow up aghadowey's baptism suggestions.

Do let us know if you make any progress.

Milly
