Title: John Wilson Graham - Manse Road, Corstorphine 1901
Post by: Fifer66 on Saturday 06 August 16 20:55 BST (UK)
Looking for some help if possible? My Great Great Grandfather, John Wilson Graham, born 1839 in Ireland, was last heard of residing at 'Bellfield Cottage', Manse Road, Corstorphine, Edinburgh in 1901 census. I'm unable to find him after this date. Cant find any further census records or death record in Britain. ???

Anyone know any info on Bellfield Cottage, Manse Road, Corstorphine? Checked old maps of Manse Road area but cant find any reference to Bellfield Cottage etc.

Any help appreciated on this address or Graham family.

Have you found his son Irvine in 1911?  I notice John is not shown with a middle name in the 1901 entry

His son Irvine turns up in Cardross, Dunbartonshire in 1911 census. Irvine got married in Glasgow in 1922 and his marriage certificate stated his father was deceased. His father John Wilson Graham would have been 72 in 1911 however no trace after 1901 census. Its a puzzler!

Hi All,

Checked address Bellfield Cottage, Manse Road, Corstorphine, and on 16th March 1913, an Elizabeth Walker, wife of William Miekle, died at that address. So John Graham did not live at that address in 1913.

Thanks for info Tom. In 1901 census there was approx 12 people at the address from various families including Meikle  family. The 'cottage' part of the name seems to be throwing me off track as it is a large house.

Hi All,

Had a further search, and found a classified ad in the Scotsman of 30th Aug 1913,

"Manse Road, Bellfield Cottage - 4 rooms, kitchen and scullery. Front plot and garden, with good hen run at back.  Jas. Meikle, Pearl Villa, Saughton Road."

Another Meikle, could be related. The description of the "cottage" makes it a bit larger than a cottage.

Hibee / Tidybooks,

Thanks for the info and will follow up. The description of Manse Cottage having 4 rooms certainly makes it bigger than a standard cottage. Much appreciated!

Bellfield is number 26 Manse Road. You can still see the name in the glass above the front door. Google 26 Manse Road EH12 and you will get an image of the house.
