Post by: Daphne Fan on Wednesday 03 August 16 08:35 BST (UK)
Hi All,
I am looking for some help for parents of Angus Stewart born aprox 1810
Angus Stewart and his wife Mary Mclean are my 3xg grandparents. They were married in 1836 in Muckart, Mary (from the Kinloch Rannoch).
On the 1841 census Angus is 30, Mary 20, Catherine 3, Eliz 2, Janet 1month (All daughters Baptised at Muckart)
by 1851 census the family are living at Alva Stirlingshire, Angus 39 ,Mary 31 (born Blackford)Catherine 13,Elisabeth ,Janet 9,Anne 7.
The family came to Australia in 1855.Passenger list has their ages as 37yrs for both Angus & Mary and residing in Clackmannan.
I have not purchased Angus 's death certificate as parents details were not included when he passed away.
Thanks in advance for any assistance here.Kerri

Hi

From the 1851 census, it looks as if he was born in Fortingall, Perthshire.

Family search has this baptism:

Fortingall  - 8 August 1808, Angus Stewart to Archibald Stewart and Ann

I've just found the Angus Stewart, mentioned on Ancestry trees,  in Ontario in 1871 but wife is Margaret.

Just checked on SP and the only Angus Stewart born Fortingall in the 10 year period 1805-15 is the one found on Family search - parents Archibald and Ann.

I concur with Gadget - however, although only one baptism found in Fortingall 1805-1815 the 1851 census shows there were 2 from there - one born ca.1806 (married to Jennet) and the OP's Angus bc.1812 married to Mary.

Dilemma!

Aside from the previously mentioned Angus, son of Archibald and Ann the next Angus Stewart born there was 21/11/1819, son of John and Christian.

I've been looking at all the Stewart baptisms in Fortingall  around the time to see who were having children - looking for name   links with Angus's children's names apart from the Archibald/Ann combnation -

Alexander and Janet
John  and Catharine
Donald and Elizabeth
Duncan and Catharine

Also a James/Jean (=Janet).

There might be others that I've missed  but only the 2 Angus baptisms (1808 and 1819).

Thankyou Annette and Gadget for your input.
Annette, I saw the 1819 birth with parents John & Christian thought it would make Angus too young to marry in 1836 ? :-\
Unfortunately Angus & Mary had no sons or other children born in Australia. To help with naming patterns.
Angus died in 1890 and his death notice gives his age as 81yrs so consistent with the birth age abt 1810 ?
