Title: Missing Great Aunt
Post by: Busterx on Sunday 31 July 16 12:19 BST (UK)
I have been trying to find my grandmothers younger sister, Maggie Stalker b. 08.01.1896 Crieff Perthshire.

I can locate her in 1901 with her widowed father & siblings in Crieff. Again in 1911 Crieff with her aunt & uncle, Lilias (Lily) (nee McRobbie) & Donald Stewart in Crieff. But after that no trace of her in the marriage or death records for Scotland/England. I can find no definite sighting either in any migration records.

Does anybody have suggestions?

Thanks

It may be a long shot, but have you investigated the 31 year old  Maggie STALKER who sailed to New York on the Caledonia in 1926. She is described as  married with two children Jeannie 9 and Helen 5.

There is no sign of a husband, so could it be your Maggie with illegitimate children?

This Maggie was born in Falkirk and would assume Stalker is her married name

Thanks everybody but Stalker was her name at birth + the birth record shows her as Maggie.

Margaret Stalker re the 1926 sailing is shown in the 1930 US census with her husband James - I followed this back to a 1916 marriage - James Stalker & Margaret Harrison (ages + James's occupation matches).

Thanks for your help.

I said it was a long shot, only by following these things up can you discount them.

There are 2 matches Scotlands People  for a Maggie born 1896 age range 3 years putting in other surname Stalker
Maggie  Hall Gauld died 1948 Dumbarton age 55 other name Stalker
Maggie Hain Harrison died 1990 Alloa Clackmannan age 95 did Maggie have a middle name

There is also a death for a Maggie Arscott birth date 8/1/1896 Westminster London but have not been able to match up a marriage for a Stalker/Arscott

Have you checked for marriages of her siblings to see if she was a witness ?

Hi Rosie

Thanks for that;

Maggie Hall Gauld 1948 on checking Gauld is her maiden name (husband George Stalker)
Maggie Hain Harrison - this was the marriage I checked on in 1916 - married to James Munro Stalker - there was no middle name on her birth record.

When did the Maggie Arscott died?

Maggie was the youngest child & I have checked all her siblings marriages - nothing.

The only other possibility is migration as her eldest sister Lilias (Lillie) unmarried left for New York in 1906 to stay with possibly her aunt.

So the search goes on ....

Do you have anything further on the older sister who went to New York or the aunt who lived there?  Maybe an obituary for either of them would have a clue about Maggie.
