in the image in the Yorkshire Marriages Thomas's occupation looks like "Roadman", his father is given as - Hoggarth, signalman, deceased.
-
thanks but how do i find his parents and his place of birth i have looked and cant find him in any census
-
His circa age at death is bc.1877 so would suggest the 1876 birthdate in 1939 is the correct one. Since he was considerably older that his wife he clearly 'fibbed' about his age when they married i.e. 46 not 39!
Their first 3 children registered as Hoggart (mmn Paylor) - Kathleen M. is as Hoggarth Dec.1933 and mmn shown as Palor!
What Christian name is given for his father when he married?

There's just a dash Annette on the marriage entry where his father's first name should be :(
-

-
i have just placed a photo of there marriage on hear icant make the witness out

If the birthdate on the 1939 register is correct, then Thomas' birth should have been registered in the Dec qtr of 1876 - doesn't appear to be obviously there though.
Also, he is noted as working for Durham CC on the 1939 register - have you checked with Durham CC to see if they hold their employment records in the archive?

what is durham cc ?

Durham County Council.

i will give them a call on monday is a roadman working on the roads ? or the railway ?
-
I would interpret Roadman as working on the roads. I was wondering whether the signal man profession of his father indicated working on railway. There was a J W Hoggart working for Midland railway at various stations between c. 1890 and 1909, but I can't conclusively find this person on the corresponding censuses ::)
-
Thank you can i ask how i can find more on the man you mentioned working on the railway because the family has always believed one of there ancestors worked on the railway
-
There is a database on Ancestry for railway employment records. I don't know to what extent it is complete though.

Thank you

Just looked and no signalman but thanks
