Title: Ann Mason nee Roscoe of Prescot and Chester
Post by: MasterMariner on Tuesday 12 July 16 20:19 BST (UK)
Hi there retouch wizards,

After your amazingly successful work on Jane Olive Hughes here is a picture of her maternal grandmother Ann Mason (nee Roscoe) 1837-1895. Originally from Sutton and Prescot and then settled with her family in the Chester area.

A tidy up in black and white would suffice. Maybe somebody could also date the dress style?

Thanks in advance.

My guess would be 1850s...but Jim will confirm.

Hi there,

Been away from the computer for a while and have just opened up to find the gallery of cleaned up photos. Thank you all very much for the time and effort involved in producing these stunning works. The family really appreciates it.

Thanks again

Yes an 1850's ambrotype. Originally in a gilt case with an oval window detected by the witness marks.
The problem is this would make her early-mid 20's & she looks a lot older than that.

That's what I was thinking, Jim.

There also looks to be evidence of a wedding ring which might help identify who she is.
