Seeking information about the family of my great-great-grandfather, who originated in Germany. Henry Frederic William Gortler was born in Feb 1876, in Niedersachsen. He was the son of Wilhelm Frederick and Wilhelmina (Schultz) Gortler. Henry had an sister named Bertha and an older brother named Carl, and a younger sister named Wilhelmina who was born in 1877. The family left Germany in 1883 aboard the Circassia and arrived in New York in January of 1884. I have a lot of information about the family after coming to the United States, but nothing of their life in Germany. At the time of their emigration they were living in the village of Runingen. They may also have used the spellings of Gurtler and Guertler. They had relatives on the father's side who lived in Braunschweig.

Hi
They may also have used the spellings of Gurtler and Guertler.
They may also have used the spellings Görtler/Goertler or Gördeler/Goerdeler.
You will find a list of the archives for Niedersachsen here:
www.arcinsys.niedersachsen.de/arcinsys/start.action
www.arcinsys.niedersachsen.de/arcinsys/einfachesuche.action
I don't know which archive is the right one for your research,
because I'm not familiar with doing research in Niedersachsen.
