Im trying to work out which.. Halfdan and Eowils and Ivars are which...
The 2 kings, Halfdan 2 and Eowils, were killed at the battle of tettenhall/wednesfield in 910... they are belived to have been brothers along qwith Ingwaer or Ivar...
but Im trying to find out... which family they are... hmm hope that makes sense...
I have seen Ivar the Boneless and a halfdan are believed to have been brothers, (sons of ragnar lodbrok) Annals of Ulster tho have him supposedly dieing in 873...
and his brother, dying in 873 at Battle of Strangford Lough ....
the halfdan and eowils I am after were joint kings of northumbria
" Hálfdan and Eowils Another king, Ingwær, brother of the above, may have ruled too"
So im trying to establish what family the three kings who died at tettnhall in 910 are of?...
In My own tree.. I do have a line back to... Eystein Glumra the noisy... and a few different halfdans/ssons..
anyone? anything? as I am from wolverhampton, where the battle hapenned.. Im interested in this :)

Much of what was written about these events/people was done much later & relied a lot on 3rd. hand information, also names may not be accurate as they may have been known by other names in other dialects.
To add to the confusion so called Kings also had children by mistresses who my also try & lay claim to the throne or be preferred by the King as his successor.

yup the halfdans etc.. dont seem to quite match datewise.. but, then again, that far back they cant really be "exact" can they.. its annoying trying to decipher which is which

I stopped at Alfred the Great for that reason. Everything after was too unreliable. When you get to people like Niall of the 7 hostages & Sven Forkbeard you know it's time to quit.

" Hálfdan and Eowils Another king, Ingwær, brother of the above, may have ruled too"
This is an exact quote from a Wiki article - is this your source??
-
Or might it be from Hutchinsons "History and Antiquities of the county palatine of Durham" 1785
"Two great battles were fought, in which Edward was victorious, several thousands falling by the sword, amongst which were two Danish princes, Eowils and Healfden (whom Flor. of Worcester calls brothers of K. Hinguar....)"
-
Plenty of mention of Hinguar and Hubba in Northumberland - about 876.
If you google "lothebrocus", the Dictionarium Angliae Topographicum (google books) mentions his sons. But is this the Hinguar referred to by Flor. of Worcester??
-
The History of England from the earliest accounts of time to the death of the late Queen Anne; Vol 1 (in 4 Volumes) published 1722.
Sometime between 876 and 885 -
"Hafden and the brother of Hinguar coming with twenty three ships from North Wales, where they had made great devastations ...."

I also have Ivar the Boneless in my tree d. 873. I was given an extensive Family Tree a few years ago on the Welsh side going back to one line of Radbard of Russia but unfortunately no mention of brothers. I did try and confirm a lot of it but gave up after a while.
Good luck, Syljun
P.S. I did enjoy the series "The Vikings".

Id just like to tie my bunch... to the ones who died at tettenhall lol

ahhh ok, sorry :)
-
Is your "Ingvaer (Ivar)" a form of "Hinguar" referred to by "Flor. of Worcester"?
This is Florentius Bravonius or Wigorniensis, died 1118.

holds mi head in mi hands... I dont know LOLOL.... (getting confused w whos who :(..... )
thinks Im gonna have to have a ponder and get back to you :(
-
sorry.. Im not trying to confuse you all lol (im confused enough myself)
the Ingwaer at tettenhall is this one...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingw%C3%A6r
He cant be Ivar the boneless tho? although, as w this Ingwaer at tettenhall, he does have a brother, Halfdan, but no mention of a Eowils (the other brother who died at tettenhall )
In my... tree... I also have a...
Ivar I, Oplaendinge, Jarl of Uplands, Earl of More Halfdansson
hes son of...
Halfdan the Aged Sveidisson
750–800
BIRTH 750 • Holtum, Vestfold, Norway
DEATH 800 • Borre, Vestfold, Norway
but these names are a long way off the Ivar (Ingwaer) Halfdan and Eowils dying at tettenhall ...
Im sure there must be a link between my bunch and the tettenhall ones
drops mi head back in my hands lol
