I'm trying to locate where a John Lockyer Huntly went to university in London, trying to find out what year he studied and what university he went to, his qualifications were engineer civil. Huntly was born in 1823 At Bond street London he died in 1907 Australia...

What year did he emigrate?
-
Do you know for certain that he actually had a degree? Or is this an assumption?

There is no obvious entry for him on either the 1841 or 1851 census
Huntly was born in 1823 At Bond street London
He was baptised 26.8.1828 so where did you get 1823 as his birthyear? No birthdate shown on baptismal record

It as suggested here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=750343.msg5984344#msg5984344 that he was born 1821 :-\

Hi Jen
I noticed that 1821 was based on his age at death but this has now been shown on current post as 1823 so wondered where it had come from.
I wonder whether the family emigrated pre-1841?
Also wondered like you - where does info come from that he was at university in England?
-
He may have gone to a technical college or a military college.

The institute of civil engineers was founded in 1818, few if any of its presidents in the 1800s had qualifications, they started as apprentices or assistants to other engineers.
It was some time after the 1850s before universities began offering degree courses in engineering

His birthdate was 15 March 1823 per the original baptism register.
-
He was 86 in 1907, this is from his will, death notice and marriage.....
I know there is a baptism record on a well known site, which u may be referring to...

From university college London website, they founded the first engineering courses in the uk in 1841, at that time civil and mechanical engineers were seen as one profession.
