Could you please give more information on William and his parents

1910 US census states Ellen was born in Georgia as were her parents. Her middle initial is quoted as A and she has a Margaret R Axson living with her.

Why do you think there is a link between Ellen & William

This looks like Ellen in 1880
https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Aellen~%20%2Bsurname%3Aaxson~

There is no indication that her grandparents were born in England

I think you'd have to go back a long way as Wm. Ax(s)on was held on the PS Torbay during the American Revolution.

Hi Rosie 99,many thanks for (and others) for your very prompt reply to my questions re William axon.I have so far found William serving under a captain Joseph Darrel in 1780 and was captured by the British and held on the Torbay in 1781.There is also a Samuel Jacob Axon (ships surgeon) who was also taken prisoner in Charlston. The story of the schooner Packhorse is also interesting as it seems this vessel was also used as a prison ship. There is also a Richard F Axon who fought the British on Jhons island near Charleston, most were killed and prisoners taken onboard the Packhorse which was ordered north for prisoner exchange, the prisoners (135) took over the vessel and headache for Halifax and eventually tertuned home.
A fascinating story which I am completely confused by. I hope to establish a connection to the axons of Deal and Walmer
Thanks

As he refers to himself as Jnr. you would have to conclude his father is also William. Have you found any reference to him ?
The only reference I can find to William Snr. is that he was the father & William Jnr. was born c.1739 which you probably already know. He went on to become a cabinet maker.

Are you trying to connect Ellen, William & Richard F back to Deal/Walmer.  If so I think that you need to look at them one at a time and try tracking them back from where you know they exist.

The NBI shows that by far the largest contingent came from Cheshire going back to the start of Parish Registers.
found only 4 from Kent & that was much later so migrated in from somewhere else.
What we know is that William son of William was probably not first generation American.
I agree with Rosie. you need to trace the Kent Axon's back further if this is the family you are interested in.
The same applies if it's the First Lady's family.

Hi rosie99/jim1
Many thanks for your valuable info.I seem to recollect that the family goes back to James axon who was supposedly a gunner in the napoleonic war however there seems to be some suggestion that he was based in Walmer castle. As you have both suggested I need to go back to basics and take it from there.axon is not a common surname which does indeed seem to originate from the Cheshire area.
Many thanks again,I will keep you posted

FindMyPast has 3 records for a James Axon dated from 1800-03 which are probably the Musters.
There is also 1 service record dated 1803 & giving a birth year of 1784 & a location of Levinsham Manchester.
There is also 1 service record for a James Axson dated 1800 giving a location of Congleton Cheshire.
Whether they are all the same person I can't say. You will have to buy credits I'm afraid.
If he was at Walmer Castle he was probably RGA.

The Axons of Deal & Walmer didn't start until 1800 when James and Sarah Axon moved there from Cheshire via Woolwich and Hougham (near Dover). He was in the R.A. The family grew and were mainly seafaring but to look any further back from 1800 would mean investigating the Cheshire branch.
