I am looking for any information or photographs on a building called Spring House, Rowley Regis.I bileive it was demolished and replaced with the Royal Oak public house on the corner of Springfield Lane.
-
A couple of possible places to look:-
http://www.rowleyregis.com/bookstore There is a book mentioned on there that is specifically related to Rowley Regis.
Below is a link to a rootschat item which originally appeared in 2009. There is a specific mention of Spring House.

I don't know if the member is still active or not. You could try sending a personal message and ask about the book the member has or had.

Welcome to RootsChat
The Royal Oak is not on the corner of Springfield Lane. You can see it on the 1884 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/395953/288491/12/100380 and on the 1968-1972 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/395929/288486/13/100765
You will have to change the zoom level of the maps.

"Spring" is marked on the other side of the road to the Royal Oak.

Thanks for the information. I was wondering if you have any further information - i have a reference to my ancestor James Dunn who married a Ann Skidmore in 1841, They are both recorded on their marriage certificate as living at a Sprink House, Rowley Regis - I assume that this means Spring House! I think this may have been a public house. Any more information would be gratefully received.

Birmingham Journal, 10 Dec 1864
FREEHOLD AND OLD ESTABLISHED PUBLIC HOUSE called THE HALFWAY HOUSE
with Dwelling House, Outbuildings and Premises Adjoining
Situate at the SPRINK HOUSE, on the new road leading from Dudleyt o Rowley, in the Parish of Rowley Regis ... now and formany years in the occupation of Mrs Mary Plant and her under tenants
Clearly a "k"in the advert, not a "g".

If it is Sprink House then it is not marked on any maps. In the 1861 census Mary Plant is at a "Public House" Dudley New Road, Rowley, and in 1871 a licensed beer seller in Springfield. It could be that by 1884 the Halfway House had been renamed the Royal Oak.

Birmingham Journal, 9 Jun 1860
" ... situate at the "Knowle" in the Parish of Rowley Regis ... and lying immediately between the present Sprink House and Bourne Hill Collieries".
Can see "The Knowle" on the '81 map, south of The Royal Oak on the Dudley Road.

Beqamin and Rebecca died within six months of each other at Spring House,
Rowley Regis in 183O/31, having acheived the great ages of 92 and 87 respectively.
In his Will and Testament drawn up on 17 February 1853, Joseph (Plant) is described as a ‘Licensed Brewer and Retailer of Beer near Spring House in the pansh of Rowley Regis and County of Stafford.
"The Official Journal of the Plant Family History Group" http://www.rootschat.com/links/01i08/
I would not place too much reliance on the spelling in the newspapers i.e. 'Sprink'

1841 Census - HO107 997 17 27
There's a John Mills, 25 and family at "Spring House", next Warrens Hall, Rowley Regis.

There is a Springfield House that still exists. It can be accessed off Walton Close, off Doulton Road,

That Springfield House is not on the 1884 map, it appears on the 1904 map, so it was built between those dates.
