Can anyone help identify this uniform please? The subject of the photograph was born in 1898 and he was Maltese. Apologies for the poor quality of the image - all I have is a coffee stained photocopy of a photograph and this is the best scan I can manage. Thank you :).

Hi
It looks like an Argyles Private soldiers sporran

Does the number of "Tassels"? have any bearing, I spent ages looking for a Sporran with 4 as I thought there were only 4 in the photograph :-\
The socks and tartan on the head wear look correct tho' even in black and white.

The tartan is not Argyle. I think its a school OTC

Take a look at this site, it contains Regimental Sporrans. There are none with only 4 bell like tassels
on.

Hi, I agree, I've spent ages trying to find one ::)
Do you think it's the photograph quality or are there only 4 on the picture?, it opens up questions if only 4.
Frank.

Good evening,
If you lok at this close up I would say there are two more tassels. You can just make out the outline of the sporran and cantle badge. That will be in the centre so the two blackened tassels are also central. That means there are two more but the poor quality photocopy has blanked them out.
There is no regiment other than the argyles who have this style of tassel in white. Black watch have the same style but in black and only 5.
The cap badge looks about the right size and shape also.

Thanks so much for all your help. Very much appreciated. Now to find out if there are any surviving records.
