14 Charlotte Street is rather key to my family. Three generations lived in the same room, including my grandfather who was born in that room. So I was wondering if anybody would have any pictures of that street (not to confused with Charlotte Place). I've seen an image of Kavanaghs hairdressers from when the street was demolished in the 90's but I'd be specifically interested in images of the houses. Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi Miriam...
Did you realise there is a Dublin page?? ;)
You might, perhaps, get better help if you post your request there too?
Good luck.

Hi Miriam,
I would think you've probably already seen these but here's a link to the NLI photo section with pictures of Charlotte street http://catalogue.nli.ie/Search/Results?lookfor=charlotte+street+dublin&type=AllFields&filter%5B%5D=format%3A%22Photo%22&filter%5B%5D=digitised%3A%22Digitised%22

Hi Miriam
I found a photo from about 1910 at http://www.emerald-isle-gifts.com/vintage-irish-town-prints/dublin-city-center-vintage-photographs/charlotte-st---dublin-city.asp
I'm interested because my grandmother lived at 16 Charlotte Street in 1901. Sadly there's no trace of it any more as far as I'm aware.

Hi Miriam,
I was looking for photos of 14 Charlotte Street when I came across your post. My Uncles family lived at number 14 from about 1900 to 1914. There names where John and Bridget Hayes they had a huge family. You don't mention a name so I was wondering if we were related.

Hi CC,
The family would have been John Evans and Esther (nee Tucker) Evans. They would have lived there around 1917 but I'm told by my grandfather that a lot of the people in that house were related. I'll have to pass the details onto him. We could be long lost cousins! Haha.

Hi Rathmore, it was a tenement house so 14.1, 14.2 etc would have been each room in the house. I'm not sure which room my family were in but the picture gives a good sense of the street. It was demolished long before I would've been able to see it myself.

This tells you which room they occupied

Thank you D as usual you all come up with something I haven't thought of. Do you know what happened to the rest of the voter registers. I seem to remember a 37-38 register and they were great but, they seem to have taken them down.

Data protection gone mad.

well how ridiculous is that. I had actually gotten quite a bit of information of those registers when they were available.

Have you look at the census I have given you it lists who lived in the rooms, of course if you were out at the time of the census people calling you would not be put on the list.
It also tells you want they did for a living and were they were born.
Have you tried the Library in dublin or the local council?
I don't think any census in 1921 because of the troubles.

Hi R,
I am familiar with the Censuses. I don't know about the 1921 census. I do know that a lot of records where lost during the Civil war. If there is any of the 1921 census left it probably would not be made available until 2021.
I live in the states so I can only get to the library when I am home on holiday. Thank you for the tips though. I always appreciated the help.

No census was taken in 1921, because of the War of Independence.

So I found John Evans second marriage record to Mary Collins in 1925. Lo and behold, one of the witnesses to the marriage was none other than a John Hayes of 14 Charlotte Street. They must have been good friends or neighbours for John Hayes to be witness at John Evans wedding. Thats crazy!

Hi,
My father lived in Number 12 along with a number of Keegan generations, if anyone has any pictures of number 12 Charlotte Street Dublin it would be much appreciated. I believe my great grandfather started off in Number 15 in the early 1900’s before moving into Number 12.
Thanks in advance

Hi there, just reread this post and had another look at the Hayes.
I found that John Hayes B 1903 married a Mary Evans about 1930 (haven't found a cert for them).
I have nothing on Mary so I was wondering if your John Evans had a sister Mary. Also you may have already seen that Mary Collins lived at number 3 when she was 4 years old. CC

I just found a cert for a John Hayes, postman, of 14 Charlotte Street (son of John a tailor) and Mary Hayes a cook, daughter of Michael Evans a corporation labourer from 2 Tolka Cottages, Drumcondra. I know my John is from there originally. His brother, Michael had a cottage there when John was in the army.
Hopefully, you can see the cert attached. I'm hoping to speak to my great-grandmother soon. She's the eldest daughter of John Evans. With a bit of luck she can shed some more light on this branch of the family.

John also married a different Mary Collins than the one who lived here. The Mary he married was from Belfast, daughter of James Collins and Mary Neylor.

Hi Miriam, I don't know how i missed this cert. Thank you for posting it for me. :) How wonderful to still have a great grandparent alive. I just have my mom she will be 92 on the 9th of December. She has helped me a lot in recent years however her memory is not the best anymore. If I come up with anything else I will certainly post it. Thanks, Caroline

Hi guys. I have 14 Charlotte St on my grandads brothers marriage cert. It has Julia Hayes marrying Andrew Edgeworth in 1924. Ive no more info on the Hayes other than her being on that census nor info on if they had any children or not. Cheers, Mark

One of the witnesses was May Hayes, possibly a sister of Julia.
Indeed, here's the 1911 census. Julia aged 9 and Mary aged 5.
