Hi Folks,
I have a rellie born in 1922 with a father in the Royal Army Service Corps. Her birth address is given as;
12, Cambridge Block,
Berechurch Road,
Colchester.
There is a small 'w.d.' following the written address on the birth certificate.
Does anyone know what and where 'Cambridge Block' was please??
Many thanks,
Tony

12, Cambridge Block,
Probably the name of one of the blocks shown on this map of the Garrison

Could have been at Berechurch Hall Camp
-
Could WD be UD for Urban district?

More likely to be War Department, I believe.
Colchester was and still is a Borough.

Thanks everyone.
Looking at it I think JenB has it with the map showing 'married quarters'. My relly's father was a regular soldier [no doubt based at Colchester Camp] and this seems very likely to be where the family lived. What a pity I can't find any definite references to the actual address. But that's what researching your ancestors is all about!
Thanks again all ....

Good evening,
JenB is right, one of the blocks of married quarters. I have searched several sites about Sobroan Barracks but although lots of pictures nothing to say which block.
