Title: Where is Stfd Ave, Bridgeport, Connecticut? - City Directory Help

I have come across a couple of entries in the U.S. City Directories on Ancestry where the street name has been abbreviated. 

I'm looking for help in working out which streets they refer to.  The one that's got me completely stumped is Stfd Ave in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

 Anyone know where I can find out which street that refers to and whether there is a resource which shows the full forms for the abbreviations.  Some of them are quite straight forward but some of them, like this one, are completely unfathomable.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Stafford  or Stamford       would seem possibles.

I'm pretty sure it's Stratford Avenue.  See http://www.trulia.com/foreclosure/3230022093-1577-Stratford-Ave-Bridgeport-CT-06607  I used to live in a nearby town, so I may be able to answer Connecticut-specific questions.

Sometimes the city directories will have a list of abbreviations in them.  If you look toward the beginning, a table of contents may give a page where the abbreviations are.
