Title: Peel Street, Newton Heath
Post by: martin young on Wednesday 15 June 16 22:41 BST (UK)
Can anyone point me to where these street was please?

I have a death or 2 at 16 Peel Street, Newton Heath but cannot find the street - one in 1915 and one in 1923.

There is a Peel Street in Failsworth - would this be one and the same?

Many thanks

Well I guess the thing to do is look at the map first............  :D

Peel Street and Peel Street East, Newton Heath ran parallel to Queen Street, between it and the Canal behind Orleans Mill.

You can see Peel Street on the 1922 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/388353/400580/12/101104 You will have to change the zoom level.

It's easy to get confused here as you are very near the border between Newton Heath and Failsworth.  There is Peel Street and Peel Street East in Newton Heath, crossing Russell Street, and on the other side of the canal, a little to the right, is Peel Street, Failsworth, which is off Oldham Road and crosses Hobson Street.
