Title: Tadcaster Home Guard in WW2, Ernest Arthur Thompson
Post by: greenfingers on Tuesday 14 June 16 14:41 BST (UK)
I wonder if anyone has any information about the Tadcaster Home Guard in WW2. My grandfather, Ernest Arthur Thompson (1891-1962) was a sergeant in this unit, having served in the 5th West Yorkshire Regiment in WW1. He and his family later lived in Bridge Street, Tadcaster, next to the river. Perhaps others have relatives who were in this unit or who remember the family in Tadcaster?
All information will be gratefully received as this is the sum total of my knowledge.

green fingers, Just seen your post re this matter.  I cannot help specifically, but there is a Tadcaster Historical Society.  They may be able to assist you.  I contacted them 4-5 years back re another subject.  Try googling Tadcaster Historical Society and you will find their site.
And before I post this, it has just come to mind - Tadcaster Drill Hall which was situated by the River Wharfe on the York side of the river.  It would probably have been used by the Home Guard in WWII.  And again, 3-4 years back I discovered a website relating to Drill Halls throughout the U.K.

Thanks very much, Katherine P, a photograph would be absolutely fantastic. We don't have many photos of EA Thompson. I'm wondering if it's possible on this link.
