I am trying to find birth details for a Thomas Dorney born in Ireland.
Problem is his age varies, on his marriage certificate in 1934 he states he is 40 years old, in the 1939 register he gives his dob as 29th august 1893, he died 21st june 1958 aged 72, if his date of birth is right he would only be 64 when he died.
On his marriage certificate his father is also a Thomas Dorney (deceased) egg merchant.
Family rumour has him born in Tipperary, he also was a widower when he married in Bolton, Cumberland 1934.
I did find a Thomas Dorney with wife Julia in Lismalin, Tipperary in the 1901 census working as an egg merchant, Thomas was 60 and Julia was 45 but when I thought I had found them in the 1911 he was now an agricultural labourer and Julia was 61, also signatures did not look the same.
Any ideas on how I can proceed with this search for his birth details.

FTR
1911 census - LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003365822/) Thomas (71) and Julia (61) DORNEY
at #2 in Lismalin (Ballingarry, Tipperary)
1901 census - LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003887563/) - Thomas, Julia and two children
at #2 in Lismalin (Ballingarry, Tipperary)
I would not initially mind the age difference or change to agricultural labourer; had the occupation been diversely different e.g. egg merchant to book binder I would be less inclined to follow clues
Thomas DORNEY of Lismolin (F David) m Julia CROAKE of Ballyvadlea (F William)
on Oct 03 1871 in Killenaule, Co. Tipperary
in 1911 they stated that they had 11 children of which 8 were alive
I can see 9 definite births for this couple plus one additional:
1871 Jul 7 Mary DURNEY
1873 Apr 27 Johanna DURNEY
1875 Apr 15 Anne DORNEY
1879* There is a civil record in Callan for a Richard but without seeing it can't tell if correct
1881 Nov 24 Michael DURNEY (1)
1884 Mar 01 Catherine DURNEY (twin)
1884 Mar 01 William DURNEY (twin)
1886 Jul 02 Thomas DURNEY
1888 Apr 18 Margaret DURNEY
1889 Oct 12 Micahel DURNEY (2)
The birth records show Thomas DORNEY senior as a "small dealer" or "labourer"
The baptism records for the parish of Ballingarry are not online for this period (up to 1881)
If this is him it gives a correct aged of 72 at the time of his death
Ages were often guess-timates and sometimes way off! Also often changed to suit circumstances i.e. some people aged to gain a pension or grew younger to marry!

Am trying to find birth details of Thomas Dorney/Durney who married Julia Croake in 1871 in Tipperary, I know his father is David. I did find a marriage for a David Durney to an Anastatia Roberts in 1827 in Co Kilkenny and found 4 children for them but not Thomas. From the 1901 & 1911 census Thomas must have been born around 1839/40 ish.
Any help appreciated.

Hello.
I'm a great-grandson of Thomas Dorney. I was contacted by an Australian relative of his which led me to this site. I can answer any questions, if I can't I can redirect these questions to his children or my mother.

I'm not sure how but this has to be related to my Dorney family. My ggrandfather Edward Dorney from Tipperary came to america around 1840's. His father was Michael from Clonmel. Many in the family are named Thomas.
