Hi,
I am wondering if someone can help me. I am looking for a photo of my biological Great Grandmothers headstone. Margaret (Thomson) Taylor (1861-1939) and my step Great Grandfather John Taylor (1851-1913). They are buried in the Wellogate Cemetery, according to john Taylor's obit. Thanking you in advance for any help!
Cheers,
Murray

your request may be a tall order for someone - wellogate cemetery is the largest cemetery in Hawick and their is no guarantee there is a stone, not every burial has a stone - your best bet is to get a lair number and grid reference from the local authority's burial services office first.
looking at the dates you gave it has a good chance in being in the lower sections of the cemetery
but that cemetery has been used since the 1840's

Thanks Terianne, I will have to do some more research I guess, as I live in Canada and don't have a clue on where to begin

the Local Authority you need to contact is Scottish Borders Council
Your can get all the info about the services available online - burial services can do searches for lairs in a cemetery

Thank you Terianne,
I got the info from them. The plot location is The location is Wellogate Cemetery, Burghal Section, Lair Number 2393.
Thank you again!

I understand the Borders Famoly History Society have started to transcribe and photograph Wellogate and the other cemeteries in Hawick but will take some time to complete.

looking at the liar number - it would suggest they are buried in the older part of the cemetery - i have liar nos in the 2000's and they are all in and around the Herriot end in the section beween the lodge and the back wall/gate/trees nr the covered bench, before you hit the newer sections and the hill.
