Long shot here...but would anyone be researching Joseph Thorley in Dilhorne....father of Elizabeth b 1825(she married John Harrison in 1845) ...Joseph was a collier and lived in Boundary? Dilhorne...I thought I had the right one but have just realised there were 2 Josephs married to Ann...other one lived in Cheadle :...Guess which one I had been researching
-
Have you found Joseph 1841 Census?
Or Elizabeth c 1825?
There is this Burial;
JOSEPH Thorley, 09 Feb 1835, All Saints, Dillhorne, age 48, abode Boundary
(FreeREG)
Trish :)

So for the process of elimination this is that Family;
After Joseph dies;
George Day, 55
Ann Day, 40
Joseph Thorley, 19
Thomas Thorley, 9
John Thorley, 7
Thomas Fowell, 40
Living in Cheadle
So appears to be the Joseph who married Ann LOVATT 1818 Cheadle (FreeREG)
-
Yes I think that is the one I am chasing ....not the one who died in 1849. Wish they had different spouse names but lol .... I reread Elizabeths marriage details 2 nights ago and nearly cried when I realised that I have probably been chasing wrong one for the last couple years :(
And that Ann(who marries George Day) her marriage says her father is John Gallimore but I can find no marriage for her and Joseph
-
Elizabeth is my GGG grandmother .... so frustrating trying to do it from other side of world and just hoping I was on right track
-
Very confusing, leave it with me and I will see what Else I can find. Sat Night here so a few things to do. Will get back to it later.
Who were the Witnesses at Elizabeths Marriage?
In the meantime someone else may be able to help.
-
I think Thomas Clough jnr ...other I cant decipher.John went on to become quite a succesful fruiterer/potato merchant looking at his will with a multitude of houses (over 50)that he divided between his kids...and one of their daughters ...Annie married Thomas Morris of the Anchor works(his father had the Regent works)

Cheadle Christenings;
CLARA, 7 Oct 1821
JEMIMA, 4 March 1827
BENJAMIN, 27 September 1829
SAMSON, 28 June 1831, 2 July 1831, buried 02 Jul 1831 age 3 days
CAROLINE, 16 March 1834
JOSEPH, 1 Nov 1835
SILAS, 11 March 1838
Parents JOSEPH/ANN/e
Earlier Children Joseph is a Labourer, Abode Commonside
Later ones Four Lane End, Occp Farmer
Then we have;
ANNE, 14 Feb 1841, to JOSEPH/ALICE, Fathers Occp Farmer, abode Common Side
ANNE Thorley buried 11 May 1838, age 43, Wife of JOSEPH
So this appears to be that Joseph in Cheadle, remarried
1841 Census
HO107/1006/Civil Parish/Cheadle
Joseph Thorley, 40
Alice Thorley, 35
Clarice Thorley, 20

Caroline Thorley, 8
Joseph Thorley, 5
Cilies Thorley, 3
Ann Thorley, 4 mths
FreeBMD Marriage Reg June 1840, Alice HASSALL likely Spouse

Even more confusing but the one who marries George Day may have been HANNAH and known as Ann;
"And that Ann(who marries George Day) her marriage says her father is John Gallimore but I can find no marriage for her and Joseph"
Marriage;
4 November 1811
Fulford, Stafford, England
Joseph THORLEY and Hannah GALLIMORE**
(F/S.Org)
YES :) looks good;
Cheadle Baptisms on FreeREG;
MARY, 17 Sept 1812, Parents JOSEPH/ANN nee GALLIMORE
EMMA, 10 Oct 1819 Joseph/Anne
So married 1811;
Children;
Mary 1812
Emma 1819
Clara 1821
Jemima 1827
Benjamin 1829
Samson 1831, died 1831
Caroline 1834
Joseph 1835
Silas 1838
Now we have a gap 1813-1818 and 1822-1827
Now as your Elizabeth has her Father as Joseph, Occp Collier on her M/C I dont think this is her Parents.
Now I will look at the other Joseph/Ann

I also had found two Hannahs,one born 1814 other 1817 ,Jane 1827,Thomas 1832 ...hadn't seen Edwin or Matildas....They are completely doing my head in.A Thomas Thorley died in 1814 and his will mentions a lot of property in Boundary Dilhorne left to assorted children,and Josephs will of 1835 only mentions his wife Ann and children but none by name ...although one of the witnesses was a Hannah Gallimore ....soooooooooo confusing
-
Aaah the Will helps!

JANE, 19 Sept 1802
ELLEN, 17 Feb 1804
JOHN, 4 Nov 1807
JOSEPH, 10 Dec 1809
Something is wrong with my Computer so am having trouble typing up stuff.
Now Hannahs age is out from Census and Burial but seems to be the same Hannah.
If you can find a Will for JOHN in 1848 it might name his Daug Ann/Hannah DAY and Thorley Grandchildren :)
-
I did find John Gallimores will but it only names children still alive by first name .....
Interesting though as if I go with the birth date of 1786 in Dilhorne for Joseph Thorley that would make his father Thomas...who married Mary ...Gallimore lol in 1766 ...so seems they are very much an interwovan family.Thomas's will of 1814 mentions his tribe of children and the properties he wons in Boundary Dilhorne,so I am going to chase along that thread for a little and try and work them all out.
Thankyou so much for all your help,the marriage of Joseph in 1811 really helped me out :) May manage to break this wall down after all
;D

Good luck.
Shame about Johns Will, maybe Hannah left one in 1858.
Let me know how you get on :)
