Title: MALTA - marriage Herbert Wright & Victoria Farrugia
Post by: johnP-bedford on Friday 10 June 16 14:57 BST (UK)
Hello... Herbert Wright born July 1900 was in the Royal Navy from 1918 & served until 1928, he then was a RN wages clerk up to 1930, last ship Egmont 2 which was shored based at Malta. Found them on 1939 Register living in Wimbledon, Victoria was born 1909 & they had son Ronald 1927.

So I'm looking for a marriage sometime around 1926

Thanks for looking

Cheers John

There is nothing showing up in the British Nationals or the British Armed Forces overseas index.

There is no marriage showing up on the Malta Family History website.

Perhaps someone else will have better luck.

Thanks for your replies....

I've just contacted a descendant of one of Herbert & Victoria's children that I found via a tree on Anc* who has recently been to Malta to check out the Farrugia family.... however the tree does not give a marriage date/place.

I will let you know.

Hi - as Herbert Wright was in the Royal Navy - they keep their own birth/marriage/death records and not always indexed on the General Registry Lists - maybe you need to get his RN record from the National Archives at Kew - jennifer

Hi = the reason I suggest getting Herbert Wright RN records is because his marriage would be entered in his paper work - jennifer

Hi John,

do you have this from A*ry?

S S Bendigo embarking London 8 July 1932 bound for Australia via Malta
Passengers:
Mrs Marjorie C Wright 35, housewife, 6 Wessex Road, Wimbledon SW
Mrs Victoria Wright 23, home duties, 53 Kingston Road, Wimbldon SW

Also a useful resource for Malta, although I haven't found Herbert Wright unfortunately:

Hi JADS, I have his navy records from the National Archives
ADM 188/788/70967 (also on FindMyPast) & ADM 363/441/30
His number is J70967 born 2nd July 1900
The first record has it that he signed up for 12 years on 2 July 1918 although his records shows him a a boy from May 1917 & progressing through to July 1927 where he was on Egmont 2... which his 2nd record starts on until 4 May 1930 where he declined to re-engage abroad. There is no note of him marrying while in service. His 5 children were born between 1927 & 1936, the last 2 in the UK.

Might there be more records available at the Archives that are not in the above ADM series.

Regards John

Hi Br1gau

Yes I have that shipping list of July 1932, I do not know who the Mrs Majorie C Wright listed next to them is; the record I have has Wimbledon crossed through and Weymouth added.

I have a subsequent one date 14th Sept 1933, ship Balranald arrival from Brisbane to London,
Passengers picked up at Malta (country of permanent residence). Mrs Victoria Wright age 25, Ronald age 6, Mary age 4, Thomas age 2 – but no Edward; going to address 45 Kingston Road, Wimbledon Surrey, which is where subsequent child Lilian was born in 1933. I am assuming Edward died in Malta as a subsequent Edward was born in 1936.

What I don't have is a previous passage of mother & children from Malta to London or indeed a record for the passage of Herbert himself.

Regards
John
