Title: 1842 Will
Post by: elainevz on Friday 03 June 16 12:47 BST (UK)
I have been transcribing a family will from 1842 and after four pages my eyes have had enough! Could anyone please perhaps help decipher the words in the photo attached - miraculously the only ones I haven't cracked! The will is that of Charlotte Santiero and can be found at http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/…/40611_309619-001…/75928…

This is a bit difficult without seeing the words in context but a couple to start:

First word top left : dispose
Third word : successors
Fourth : the Consols
Seventh : mentioned , In

I'm sure someone else will "see" others.
Edit : sixth word down : ends

Hi Elaine

As CB53 says it's tricky without context. Could you give a few words either side of the missing words and the page a line number so they can be found more easily? This PCC Will is quite long.

Ninth word on left " real ".

I'm finding it very difficult to locate the words - as Venelow says some line numbers would help.

Left column:

First word is dispone.  This is apparently a word of Scottish Law.

Second word is me plus a line fill character which should be ignored.

Fifth is which an.  (I reserve the right to change my reading in case I see the context.)

Eighth is opens.  (I reserve the right to change my reading in case I see the context.)

Thanks for those few words so far.  The will is for Charlotte Santiero, posting the link again- http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/5111/40611_309619-00185/75928?backurl=http://person.ancestry.co.uk/tree/50486206/person/13100810068/facts/citation/120273374975/edit/record

I have done 'snips' in the hope that this will help - can't get them to attach at the moment.  Error message says there is already a file with that name!  I'll keep on trying

Second word is concerned.

Third word is And.

Fifth is Doctor of Laws.

Sixth is deceaser.  (I reserve the right to change my reading in case I see the context.)

Seventh is own liferent.  (I reserve the right to change my reading in case I see the context.)

Right column, fourth I think is the truth.  I reserve the right etc

Elaine, you have to give any attachment a unique filename.

Something like Santiero_1, Santeiro_2 etc should do the trick.

Particularly the context for the first and last of the right column would be useful.

I think the last of the right column might be remain.  Does that make sense?

I've tried all sorts of names for the files so hoping this works.

I have reviewed suggestions based on your Snips as follows.  There are also corrections which I noticed in nearby text, noted in the sections below:

deceaser - yes
opens - yes
own liferent - yes
real - yes

...in the presence
of us who at her request...

...and I consent to the registration hereof in terms of the within
written clause...

And - yes
Doctor of Laws - yes

I also noticed this correction in Snip 1:

...real and personal above conveyed
with full power to me...
