In1956 my father visited his cousin, who was a cook at Harcourt Manor in Theydon Bois. The house was owned by Sir Patrick Hennessey, Managing Director of Ford Motor Company. I have not been able to find this Manor in a google search and assume that the Estate may have had a name change. My father has Italian roots and his cousin's maiden name was Di Bartolomei. Can anyone help me to identify this estate. I am hoping when I do this that I can also find a photograph. Apparently my father was asked to help our at a function Sir Patrick was holding (wait staff), as he was short staffed. I think it was a way for my father to earn his keep whilst he was visiting his cousin. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks Schio

He was Sir Patrick Hennessy.
Per the phone books his address in the 1940's and 1950's was The Cottage, Stondon Massey (or just Massey).
He died at Larkmead, Theydon Bois in 1981.

Thanks for that Shaun. A new lead now. Greetings from Australia

Correction: Sir Patrick Hennessy appears to have moved from The Cottage at Stondon Massey around 1954. Another Ford executive, J Allen Barke, is listed there from 1955 to 1957.

Hi,
Larkmead is a multi-million pound property that you can see here (looks like lots of modern redevelopment).

It appears to be what was "Lark Hill" *see correction below* towards the bottom right hand corner of the map chempat linked to. It's possible that "Harcourt Manor" was a temporary incarnation for this grand property, which is why we can't find references to it.
Others will know more about this, but would you be able to access the land registry details for the property to follow its ownership or any change of name?
All the best
Rob

*correction*
Lark Hill and Larkmead are (close but) different properties as shown by this 1969 map (you can scroll right) - apparently unbuilt on the 1938 map
