Hi,
I am interested if there is a site that I can search for information and/or transcripts of Thomas Sidney's court cases
Convicted in July Session 1827 - sentenced 6 months
Convicted Summer Session 1829 - sentenced 2 months and whipped
Convicted at: Bristol City Quarter Sessions Jan 1831 stealing clogs sentenced for a term of 14 years.
Regards
Garry

Hi Garry
1827 was for larceny - stealing eight painting brushes from a Mr. Peter Peace. It's in the Bristol Mirror from 12 May 1827 when he was charged with it. The newspaper article doesn't add anything more than that. The Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette reports the sentencing on 19 July 1827 (6 months and kept to hard labour)
1829 was for larceny - stealing a dozen birch brooms from J Elliott. Its in the Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette 30 July 1829.
Will see what else I can find :)

There is another possible conviction in April 1828 as well - Thomas Sidney at Bristol for Larceny from the Person - 12 months imprisonment and whipped. It was stealing a silk handkerchief from the person of Mr. Thomas York (19 April 1828 - Bristol Mirror)
I think that would fit in the gap between the two earlier convictions you have already if my maths is right - July 1827 for 6 months, back in Gaol in April 1828 for 12 months and then back in Gaol again in Summer 1829..... :-X
Is he the Thomas Sidney that was transported to Australia in 1831?

Thanks for the information Ruth. :)
Yes he is the Thomas Sidney transported in 1831
Checked the newspaper site but it is a subscription which I don't have, but at least I have what he was charged for which I didn't have before
