You're welcome. I usually rely on the £1 for a month offers and only yesterday was contemplating buying a months sub as I had a few things to look up.
-
Thanks for pointing this one out.

This offer is tree hint related isn't it? You can't just go direct to view an image.

I just logged in on my old account and it it says I need to subscribe so it is not free!!
rayard.
-
Yes correct, it's not free I have tried it
-
I thought the same as you Blue.
Also just found out that Findmypast's hints only work for BMD records so far... so no censuses.
-
A lot on findmypast is indeed free at the moment
Census transcriptions are available, not the images
Parish registers, the ones I have looked at i.e. Westminster, Devon, Cheshire - transcripts and images all free

Thanks, I just discovered that too. And Shropshire and Staffordshire :)

I have a Britain only sub to FindMyPast, but I have been able to view some Australian records free today.
-
It seems to be free for me - just logged in, and I don't have any credit at the moment, but I've been able to access a couple of records I'd normally have to pay for. :)
-
Works for me on BMD's including images.
With Census, I can only view the transcript - Not image

Thank you Lidfam & also JonW65 for the bit about Westminster. I have just looked at the Westminster baptisms and found another child for a family I thought I had completed years ago! No doubt about it as he is baptised with a brother.
Seems he was born just after the 1851, away at school 1861 and then married at 19 so in his own household 1871 onwards. Survived to 1939 and probate is to his niece. This lark never fails to surprise.

Ok, So yesterday (Tuesday) it let me look at loads of things for free. Today, nothing. Every time it goes to the 'payment' page. :-\ Why?
Is it supposed to be 'all week'? Til when?
-
Just tried to get some info from Registry of Seamans Tickets.
Not free, want money :-X :-X

Same here ???

It says -
Add your tree and get FREE hints
Already have a tree elsewhere or starting your tree? Get FREE hints on over 1.8 billion records, for this week only
Maybe it was a glitch yesterday allowing access :-\

Went back on noticed that ;D ;D

OK, not everything is free admittedly, however a good chunk of it is, and it is still working for me today. Every little helps, as they say.

I've had a tree on FindMyPast for years, but these hints are is quite a new thing. And I'm not sure they are really helpful. I don't see any hints which I haven't already found by searching FindMyPast either BMD and census records, and I have found a lot more than their automated hints because I have local knowledge and an understanding of the various mispellings of some rare surnames.
But as I have an annual UK sub, the only useful thing was one Australian death record and one marriage record.
The same hint has turned up for two people, my 3 x great grandmother Mary Eltham died in 1847 and it shows up correctly as a hint. But her husband Robert also had a sister Mary of similar age, I get exactly the same hint for her death. I have not fully traced the sister Mary, but if she married it was likely to be before 1837 (she was born 1767) and quite likely she died before 1837 as well.

It seems that only the records linked to the hints are viewable for free.
I have two relatives (brothers) who both went to Australia, both died there, one married, the other did not (died in his 20s not long after arriving).
On my tree I have the marriage date and wife's name and both deaths. Only the events for the brother who married have been picked up as hints, so I can view those records. The death of the second brother has not been linked to a hint, so I cannot view his death record free, I can only see it on the index search. So it is not that some types of records are viewable and others are not, it is linked to a specific record.
I have another rellie who is on census records from 1841 through to 1891, I can find him on all of them (on FindMyPast records), but FindMyPast hints can only find him on 1851, 1861 and 1881, because of bad transcriptions (original enumerator's) and/or mispellings of names. So I suspect if I didn't have a sub, I could view 1851, 61 and 81 records for free but not that same person on the other censuses.

Strange - I haven't got a tree on Find My Past but looked at several records the other day when this was suggested but now it goes to the payment page. ???

That is odd, may'be there was a glitch when it started and more was free than they intended.

I'm still seeing things for free, so I'm not sure why you can't....
Also I should point out that you can't get the 1939 register for free, only the "free preview" page like before. I haven't tried military or travel records yet, or newspapers. Census transcriptions are free but you can't see the images.
-
Thanks for posting I have had free lookups this evening so do not know when it ends.

When I tried again they said they were "too busy", and search function couldn't be used anyway!!
rayard.
-
Maybe it has finished the free search then ,I will try later and see what happens
Regards Marie.
-
Still free when I just looked and had no problems with a search
Regards Marie.
