Title: How do I obtain Canadian Marriage Certificates.
Post by: hayler3 on Sunday 22 May 16 06:14 BST (UK)
Can anyone advise how I can obtain marriage cerificates for Canadian ancestors.
I'm trying to obtain marriage certificates for
Edward McArdle &Alice Amy Hayden married  3 June 1908 St Stephens Anglican Lachine Quebec(source Drouin  Collection)
and
William Harrison McArdle &Elizabeth Frances Figsby married  6 June 1899 St Stephens Anglican Lachine Quebec(source Drouin Collection).
I have reasons to believe  Edward and William McArdle  were brothers and am trying to build evidence to support this.I was hoping marriage certificates would include details of parentage.
I have looked at www.etatcivil@gouv.qc.ca,however it seems to be able to order a certificate you have to a go through very rigorous proof of identity process of which I cant meet the requirements. ?Am I looking in the right place?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try writing to the Quebec Family History Society.  Below is the link to their website.

http://www.qfhs.ca/

I seem to remember getting a record of some sort that was to do with a marriage in the family I was researching.  As recall I had to pay a small fee and I did this through this society.

Hopefully they will be able to help you.

I'm not sure if you have seen the actual images in the Drouin Collection?

Civil registration only began in 1994 (yes) in Quebec. What is available prior to this is a parish record, which is what you get from the Drouin Collection. Someone may correct me but it is my understanding that the Quebec Government will send you a copy of what is in said parish record. Images of these parish records are available through Ancestry if you have a Canadian or Worldwide sub. If your local public library subscribes to Ancestry Library Edition you should be able to access the images that way.

Thanks everyone. The French record for Edward McArdle  does not apply to m Edward.
The background to all this started when I wanted to find out what happened to the children of my 3Great Uncle Joseph McArdle (bEngland 1847 d Lachine 1916) after his first wife Isabella Harrison died in 1885 following an assault. There is extensive coverage of this in British Newspapers and Old Bailey transcripts. At the time the family were also using the name Adams. Then I found that Joseph McArdle had died in Lachine and William and Edward McArdle were present at his burial. William and Edward were present at each others wedding and at some of the baptisms of each others children. At Williams wedding Edwards middle name is  given as Harrison,at the baptism of Edwards oldest son Albert Edward Edwards middle name is given as Adams. Sorry I have not been able to master attaching records, help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there.

I was wondering if you had noticed that Barbara appears to have had Joseph's body moved to Lachine the following year?

Hi Polarbear
I had seen the record but was struggling with the translation. Im also very unfamiliar with Canada and the area they lived in. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
