My grandmother was cremated in grimsby in 1962, funeral director was J S RUDKIN, I cannot find any reference to j s rudkin.I was wondering if anyone knows if they are still in existance or if they were taken over
thanks

There is an entry in the telephone book (1961) -
J S Rudkin, Joiner and Undertaker
Back 39 Grafton Street,
Grimsby
JJ
Added - still there in 1966 :)
-
... and in 1933
J W RUDKIN
back of 43 Grafton Street (living there 22 years earlier too)
JWR died in 1938
-
thank you for the information, much appreciated

a quick look at google street view shows that the street has been redeveloped.
It's hard trying to find a Funeral Director or group in Grimsby who have been in business since the 1960's who could help. Many are part of larger groups such as th Co=op. Might be worth asking there.

It seems J W Rudkin died 1937
His probate Joseph William Rudkin of 55 Bereton Ave Cleethorpes Lincs died 5 mar 1937 Grimsby & District Hospital Lincs Administration with Will Lincoln 18 Jun to Ada mary Rudkin Widow
Effects £1309 1s 4d
Joseph William Rudkin was a joiner and lived at 43 Grafton St with his wife Ada mary brewitt
He was the son of Joseph Rudkin who was also a joiner
Joseph William Rudkin & Ada Mary had a son Joseph Sidney Rudkin in 1906
Joseph Sidney Rudkin was a joiner & Undertaker in Grafton St
Joseph Sidney Rudkin died 1967
so maybe that's when the business closed or was taken over

Hi lynukk
what are you trying to establish?
-
my grandmother bigamousley married in 1942...and we were told there may have been children...i was told the funeral director may have papers with names ...who registerd the death, funeral notives etc
-
Purchase of the death certificate would give name of informant - they can be purchased on line from GRO for £9-25.
Strangely i have a great uncle who (we think) married bigamously about that time in same area He died 1972

My father is a funeral director and his files don't ordinarily contain that sort of information, they only have specifics to do with the funeral: date, time, place, coffin details etc
The funeral director might have been privy to other 'family' information. If so that will have gone to his grave with him.
You could contact the crematorium and ask for more details about the funeral from their files. But I think that the only extra information would be the name of the applicant (next of kin or executor) and their address and how much it cost.

we have the death certificate and know the name of the informan but havent a clue who she is.After my grandmother went to prison for bigamy she went back to her second husband and was till with him when he died in 1962
-
how is the informant described on the death cert?
Presume you have her name and address?
-
There is a chance the person named is still alive, if you want to send me her name and address via PM I'll see what I can find out
