John is said to have emigrated to Nova Scotia from (possibly) Londonderry around ~1780
We have his Marriage to Hannah Archibald in 1783 and death there 1805.
Anyone heard of him or his parents? Probably Presbyterian.
Thanks, DEC

Sorry this does not answer your question. Do you know if John is the father of Robert Cummings (my ancestor) born 1790 in Nova Scotia?

Hi Karen,
I have a lot of Cummings in my family tree. They were Presbyterian and originated from Paisley , Scotland. So it is most likely than your Cummings ancestor was Presbyterian.

Have you looked at his death certificate? Does it have any clues and also the marriage certificate often has the father's name on it.

Too early for vital records but church records might be available.
Years ago in PANS, Halifax I found a transcript of records from a family Bible (still in the family it turns out) which documented the family originating in the Isle of Skye, moving to Ulster and finally to Nova Scotia.

Hi D,
I have a similar surname and I am from County Londonderry with my line hailing from there too.
I haven’t heard of or come across this couple in any of my own research.
From living in the county and doing my own genealogy research I know that there are about three different branches of this surname in county L’derry. There is one branch in Derry/Londonderry city with the spelling Cummings. This family has long/established roots in Derry city and appear to have an English origin. Could this be a possible connection?
Though I do see that his wife’s family from is from Coleraine, if you are not aware of this so very close to where my branch is from: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Archibald-13)
If you have gedmatch you could try checking to see if you match with myself.

This post interested me as I have the surname Cumming (variants) who I believe emigrated from the Western Isles/Inverness-shire (Scotland), possibly to Nova Scotia or surrounding areas & possibly via Ireland.
I thought I'd do a quick check of the surname in my DNA matches' trees as I knew I'd come across the surname.
What a disappointment but now I know why I didn't follow it up.
This is one reason why people with DNA matches should never take/use info. from/on others' trees as fact!

Yes, Annie, unfortunately those sort of 'family trees' (more like fantasy tree) are all too common. Just as this one is incorrect-
