Hi
I have found a marriage entry for 12 /04/ 1845 Bernard Corcoran & wife in St Johns Limerick city. Can anyone tell me it there would be more info in the original register such as: if of the parish, if bachelor/widower/spinster, who were the witnesses, parents etc? as I don't know parents as yet for either bride or groom.
Thanks in advance for your time.

wow that was fast! Thank you Hurworth does it say witness Michael Moloy? & Joanna Duffy.by W. What does the W mean?
The copy i had was really hard to read couldn't see any details abt witnesses so thanks.
He was in the Artillary so probably stationed there. Winess names dont seem to be family. Thank again for your help most kind.

I think it says the witnesses are Michael Molony and Johanna Duffy.

Do you have any other information about the happy couple and how you found your way back to them?
-
I don't think it's a W, looking back through earlier pages I think it's Ao, the o written small at the top of the A, haven't figured out which priest it is yet.

Hello thank you guys for your help. They weren't from Limerick as far as I know but both from cork. As yet I have no parents for either of them and was hoping for a clue from Marriage but it doesn't look like it. Bernard was possibly in Limerick with his artillery regiment.
From Bernard's military records it says he was born 1824 Cobh on sea, Cork,I have yet to find his birth or that of his bride who was also from cork abt 1828. They had one child John baptized 1847 Dublin then moved to England and had 4 more children. I never found Bernard after 1851 census but his wife & children stayed in the Greenwich area. Bernard possibly left the family after 1857 and dissappears a without trace.
Thanks again

Not Cobh on Sea, but it's 1824. 11th January. Could it be possible?

Hello Hurworth:
Birth info: Source 1 : 1851 census England:F.M.P.
Parish:Woolwich St Marys: borough: Greenwich,Town :Woolwich
Benjamin Corcoran crossed out then Corconan,Head,Mar, 27, Army Horse Artillery Gunner, born On Sea, B.subjt (should be Bernard) with right wife & kids
Birth Source 2: British Army Service Records 1760-1915 Transcription:F.M.P
First name(s)BERNARD Last name CORCORAN
Birth year 1824 Birth parish Birth town CORK Birth county CORK Birth country IRELAND Service number-
Rank DRIVER Regiment Royal Horse & Field Artillery
That is a possible birth you found as one of his daughters was named Hannah (maybe after Mum). Entry looks like it says Bernard of Bryan Corcran & Hannah Crawford= wm?? Chawnor? & Ann Hogan? do you think?
His children were named John 1847, Elizabeth Louisa 1849, Hannah 1851, Alfred 1854, Sophia 1857 all but John born England John baptised Dublin army records.

Actually looking again at army discharge pages it helps give a more accurate birth date for Bernard:
FINAL DESCRIPTION:
of Driver Bernard Corcoran of the Battn of Royal Horse or Corps Artillery when discharged the service at Woolwich this 13th day of April 1852.
Age: 28 years 28 days = Born abt Mar 1824
& also Rank DRIVER Regiment Royal Horse & Field Artillery
Document Type Discharge
Attestation year 1838
Attestation Day 17
Attestation Month 8
Attestation age years 14
Attestation age months 7
Discharge Corps ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY
= Jan 1824
So looking very likely now that birth was Jan-Mar 1824 from 2 sources. Thanks hurworth really useful! :)

How can i do a search for his wife Mary the same way that you did for Bernard. I have just been on the NLI site but it does not allow to search by name. All I know was that she was born 1828 in Cork maiden name Fitzgerald and her family had money? But without knowing the catholic parish I'm stuck.
Any help much appreciated.

Thank you for the website merrick7. I didn't know about it, and it's better than the searchable indices on FindMyPast or Ancestry because you can search for witnesses/sponsors.
-
Keep in mind that site only covers the Dioceses of Cork and Ross so doesn't cover all of Cork.
Click on the Show Dioceses or Show Counties in blue and you can see the parts of the county covered by Cork and Ross and the other Diocese Cloyne.

completed thanks to all who helped
Well done. I was thinking that finding a Mary Fitzgerald from Cork would be nigh impossible (due to having Fitzgeralds in our tree).
-
completed in so much as all possibles found for Bernard & Mary's birth noting all born 1828 +2 Cork for Mary Theresa and all 1824 as have more exact info for Bernard. Never know for sure at the moment though which is correct one.
Also all marriage details found that are also available so I guess thats as good as it gets.
Thanks again this board is brilliant!
