Hi
Could anyone help with deciphering this 1885 Middlesbrough street name please?
Thank you
Sandra

There was a Monkland Street in Middlesbrough in 1915 - my great grandfather lived at No. 23 just prior to his death in the Workhouse Hospital.
From the OS map for 1915 (reproduced by Alan Godfrey Maps) Monkland Street ran east to west parallel with Grange Road West in the north and joined Hartington Road at the western end, Linthorpe Road at the eastern end, crossing Fairbridge Street on its way.
Monkland Close appears to be in its place now, looking on Google Maps, with new housing & industrial units.

Looks like Monkland to me.

Thanks to you both for your prompt replies. I really appreciate it.
I will check out the 1915 OS map tillypeg.
Thanks again

Thanks Stan - I know exactly where that is now. I've walked past it many times and never would have guessed that my GG Grandparents lived there!
