Whilst performing a surname Search on the BNA, I got a false hit that is potentially very interesting.
(Hastings and St Leonards Observer - Saturday 20 September 1952, page 5).
In September 1952 there was a big dog show held in Hastings.
Amongst the many prizes, the Saltbarn cup (best smooth haired dachshund) went to Mrs R Gale's Wunderbar Womack (Chelsfield, Kent) female dog, bred by Mr A. H. Gale.
My paternal grandparents were Thomas Womack and Adelaide Gale, married in 1917, so you can understand my interest.
My current database has no credible candidates for this "Mrs R" and "Mr A H" Gale, and further searching in the BNA (for various combinations of Gale, Chelsfield, Kent, Dachshund) has found no more references.
Can anyone find ... well ... anything on these 2 Gales and their dog breeding?

I have searched in FreeBMD for:
Type: Marriages
Surname: gale
First name(s): a
Start date: Mar 1920
End date: Dec 1950
Spouse's first name(s): r
I then eyeballed for "a" being male, and having a second name starting with "h" and the "r" being female.
(sadly FreeBMD does support any of those search methods)
I found only 1 match;
Marriages Mar 1944 GALE Albert H S G Sewell Bridport 1 5a 827
Marriages Mar 1944 SEWELL Rebecca Gale Bridport 1 5a 827
Subsequently (in FreeBMD), Gale/Sewell children Sonia, Caren, Pauline, Kevin, Michael and Glyn were born 1946-1959, all in Bridport.
They don't look like Kent dog breeders to me.

Ah hah - more dogs called Womack, and Mrs R is "Rene".
Thank you, that's really helpful - I hope!
Edit; further on that site:

I hate having to search The Times separately, when the BNA searches 615 newspaper simultaneously.
But sometimes; I found 3 hits, just pre war.
Tuesday, Nov 19, 1935; pg. 2
Friday, Feb 28, 1936, pg. 1
Friday, Oct 30, 1936; pg. 1
(images attached).
I wonder if the Gales bought this kennel?

One of the first search I did in the 1939 preview on FindMyPast ("a h gale" in Kent) have me;
Arthur H Gale 1902 Orpington U.D. Kent
Which looks like the same guy.
Confirmed; I added the DOB you gave to the search (23 Sept) and it still "hits"
Thank you.

Looks likely - that fits the 1939 data, there's an Irene P Gale also living at Oxendon Wood Rd

(and possibly Arthur's siblings; Dudley W Gale, b1899 and Gwendoline C Gale b1907)

That would lead to:

Births Dec 1946 Gale Michael J Andrews Lewisham 0 5d 49
Births Jun 1955 GALE Susan ANDREWS Lewisham 0 5d 10

OK, some nasty transcription errors to fix up, but in 1901 we have Mr Arthur H Gale (b1863) and wife Emily (b1870) with little Elsie 5, and Dudley W 1, in Norwood.
Arthur Harold Gale is born to them in 1902, in Norwood.

And keeping it in BOTH families;
Marriages Jun 1930 Andrews Gwendoline C Gale Lewisham 0 1d 2290
Marriages Jun 1930 Gale Dudley W Andrews Lewisham 0 1d 2290
5 years earlier than "our" Arthur H Gale's marriage to Irene P Andrews.
I'm presuming Gwendoline and Irene are sisters; off to confirm

OK, I've (really we've, thank to all for the help) traced Arthur Harold back to his parents, and found (in turn) their wedding;
Arthur Henry Gale, b1863, Surveyor married Emily Maud Grossmith, b1870, 5 Apr 1894 in North Brixton Christ Church.
Arthur's father is William Richard Gale, an Iron Merchant (deceased).
This is nowhere near any ancestral lines I know of for "my" Gales.
I am (therefore) merely at a loss as to why the 1950 Dachshund was called Womack, the starting point of this search?!

9 years later...
I contacted the Dachsund society.
Some people still remember Bob and Rene.
It turns out Bob and Rene spent their Honeymoon boating on Womack Water (on the Norfolk broads).
And they commemorated this in the name of their dogs. :)
