Searching through the Bedale burial parish registers I found several references to "a Brother of Firby Hospital". This comment follows the name of the deceased person.
Does anyone know if this is a religious order, some sort of medical person/profession or an inmate of an institution?

I've no local knowledge, but a Google suggests it's likely to be a reference to the almshouses at Christ's Hospital, Firby - have you looked at that?

You can see Firby Hospital Almshouses, which are still there, on the map

Thanks for the replies

As well as pictures, one of your links states 'Hospital' is an old word for almshouses so now I can now assume that my relative was probably living in these 'Almshouses' at the time of his death.
