Oh wow - how could I not have found that...thank you very much.
ADDED: even better, as Patrick is born Ireland then I can surmise that William & Susannah no doubt married there ca 1825....
Have found a Felix Owens age 50 b Ireland in Cockermouth in 1871 RG10; Piece: 5240; Folio: 22; Page: 12 but he is a cattle dealer....

:)
There is a Margaret Owen born England 1869 with parents Felix and Maria on familysearch
They appear to have moved to Rhode Island, another entry gives her mother as Maria Madden, There is a marriage Rochdale Jun 1866 for a Maria Madden and Felix "Hones".
Also a death notice in the Rochdale Observer 20 April 1867
"Owen -
on the 15th ins aged 4 months Mary Ann daughter of Felix Owen, card loom jobber, Lark Street."
Of course this might be a completely different Felix.

Thanks, will look into that.
Just realised that the ages in 1841 are a bit of a prob - William & Susannah both '20' but Patrick '15' so unlikely to be their child? Perhaps William's brother?
In 1851 HO107; Piece: 2221; Page: 9 William is '30' & Susannah '40', 1861 RG 9; Piece: 2943; Folio: 27; Page: 7; 2 Cheetham St William '45' Susannah '50', 1871 not yet found, 1881 RG11; Piece: 3898; Folio: 70; Page: 26; 3 Cross St William '60'.

ADDED: This could be Jane's birth reg, it's the only Jane Owens in Manchester 1839 Q1 - 1840 Q4
Births Mar 1840
Owens Jane Manchester 20 543
may be worth getting for Susannah's MN

There's a payment for an inquest in the Rochdale District on a Felix Owens of Wardleworth on 8 Jan 1870 [no corresponding death on freebmd].
It seems he could be this Felix in 1861
RG 9; Piece: 3036; Folio: 38; Page: 10; 5 Moor Square Castleton Rochdale
Mary Howens w 54
Felix Howens s 26 grinder in cotton mill
Mary Howens d 19 cotton rover
all born ireland

Hi
Using lancashireBMD.org.uk records if Jane is the only Jane Owens born in the time frame given, in Manchester, her mothers maiden surname is MASTERSON

the ages in that 1841 are not really a problem. Anyone over 15 usually had their age rounded down to the nearest 5 so a 20 year old could be between 20 and 24 years old. This 2 people could show as the same age whereas their ages were 2 or 3 years different
-
on lancs bmd Henry's mmn is also Masterton
Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1844
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Mother's Maiden Name
OWEN Henry Deansgate Archives+, MASTERSON
a Charlotte who died before the Charlotte of 1848/9?
Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1841
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Mother's Maiden Name Reference
OWEN Charlotte Deansgate MASTERSON
Lancashire Death indexes for the years: 1845

Thanks for all that, lancsann. Great to have Susannah's MN, confirms the marriage of 1839 & I can get their father's names.
Marriages Jun 1839
MASTERSON Susannah Manchester 20 430
OWENS William Manchester 20 430
Re-the 1841 ages, even if William & Susannah were 24 or so, they couldn't have a son of 15 though could they?
Re-Charlotte, the Charlotte born 1850/1 married in 1871 [I have the certificate] aged 20 living in Greengate, as is husband James Burton, father William Owen dyer. So as you say, looks like she was the 2nd Charlotte they had.
Thanks.
ADDED: As an aside - wonder where Catherine, 19 in 1851, is in 1841?
There is a 15 yr old Catherine Owen in Deansgate but not born in county:
George Taylor 15 NBIC
Catharine Owen 15 NBIC
HO107; Piece: 570; Folio: 42; Page: 30

Thank you so much. The Cathedral I presume is CoE but some of the children were baptised at an RC church... ??? From http://mlfhs.org.uk/data/catholic_results.php
Bap OWEN William 1848 Father of: Charlotte OWEN at Manchester, St. Wilfrid, Hulme
Mar OWEN William 1849 Father of Thomas OWEN at Manchester, St. Wilfrid, Hulme
Bap OWEN William 1851 Baptised at Manchester, St. Wilfrid, Hulme
Looks like there was a William born 1851 who died young - not on 1861 census.
1861 RG 9; Piece: 2943; Folio: 27; Page: 7; 2 Cheetham St
William Owens 45 dyer
Susannah Owens 50
both born Ireland
Henry Owens 17
Thomas Owens 15
Charlotte Owens 12
all born Manchester
As William & Susannah both state they were born in Dublin, may have to look for their fathers in Ireland. Have found the marriage entry thanks; I see a Jane Owens was witness - possibly William's sister?

St. Wilfred, Hulme
OWEN? Charlotte
Baptised: 10 Dec 1848 Father: William OWEN? Mother: Susannah MASTERSON
Godfather: Mich GILLON? Godmother: Mary DOWD
Notes: Born Nov 17th
The William baptised in 1851 had a father Thomas. This is the only one to this couple in the register.

Thank you for those details about Charlotte - she is a direct ancestor of my d-i-law whose tree I am working on. Can rule out that William from this family then.
