Canadian Passenger Records only cover 1865 - 1935 on the "A" site - nothing immediately showing for George William Hamstone that I can see.

Noticed his birth 9/2/1882 mother Sarah Caroline Hamstone she married a George Barrett 1882 Australia ...A tree online has a death for him 1935 Northern Cape South Africa which you would need to check ...There is a lot of immigration records for a George W Barrett from England to Canada birth same year but this chap was born in England ...What makes you think he was in England

Thanks Rosie , I have an ancestry tree online , the info on his death from other trees is incorrect and not verified that i can see .  The hamstone name is popular in africa and that person was born/died in africa.  there is also info about a diamond thief being hung with same name , good details but a coincidence.
not really sure where our George went , just know he was saving money for travel after his mum died.
thanks though :)

GW Hamstone . was born to sarah out of wedlock, so his birth cert. is hamstone - she then married a George Barrett - cant find adoption or proof that GW took his name.  so he would of had to travel using hamstone - or a variation ? maybe

thanks Cando !
thats a different lead - now i have no time line :(

I know he was receiving money from his brother during ww1 - so he could have gone anytime from 1920 ..... and with only one other male on the farm , im only assuming that he stayed until his brother returned.

.....

Who was George receiving money from during WW1?

I think you have confused the brothers.

Albert was receiving money from Lindsay.

Perhaps George was well gone before WW1....have you checked to see if he enlisted in the Boer War?

George Snr appears to have left the family as Lindsay has his mother as NOK.

Of course you have personal knowledge of the BARRETT's at Frances and Bordertown however I note that when Albert died in a shooting accident in 1933 he was farming his land alone.
