Hello all,
I have come across an image of an Australian government document (from the transcribe.naa.gov.au website) which contains the name of a person I have been looking for for a long time. The document is headed "TRANSFER PROPOSAL PART 2 CONSIGNMENT LIST" and is just a list of names, box numbers and item codes. The document is listed under Migration Case Files (Kuala Lumpur) Department of Immigration 1987-1988.
Does anyone know if this means that the person named was applying to migrate to Australia in that time period, or was this to dispose of old documents? Also, what if any, other information could be gleamed from such a document to find out any more about anyone listed. The last record I have found for this person was in the 1960s so it would be great to move them on a couple of decades.
I cannot name them because there is a possibility, however slight, that they are still alive.
Many thanks
Glen

Those handwritten lists are being transcribed to be put into the online catalogue, The item codes and box numbers refer to where the documents are located at the Archives. You can contact them and give the details you know about the person and they will let you know what they have and give a quote for obtaining copies if the documents fall within the open period.

Have you considered asking the National Archives of Australia? You will find they are used to being asked questions about their holdings.

FAQ
How do I access a record I see listed?
If you are using the arcHIVE website as a registered user, you are able to request access to an item from a consignment list by clicking on the button beneath the transcription window labelled 'Request Item'. This will take you to a form where you can fill in the relevant details. Beneath the form you can view the transcription or the image of the consignment list in order to copy the details of the item or items you want to access.
If you do not wish to register you are able to request access to an item you find on a consignment list by sending a general inquiry about the item to the National Archives reference service asking for access.
Cheers, JM
