Title: Broughton/Ireleth/Kirkby
Post by: Deetot on Wednesday 20 April 16 20:48 BST (UK)
Hi there,
I wonder if some kind person could maybe help me with some geography? Never a strong point for me  ???

When my gr grandmother Margaret Ann Hanvey died, aged 65, on 24 Mar 1915, although she had lived in Whitehaven all her life, the address was given as Woodland Grove, Kirkby R.D., Sub-district of West Broughton. This address was where her daughter's  mother-in-law (Sarah Tyson) lived at the time of the 1911 Census. I am guessing perhaps she was visiting?
Does this Woodland Grove still exist?
Sarah and Robert Tyson at one time lived at Woodland Station, which I have found photos of, but they are not really my direct line.
Putting various versions of Woodland Grove in search engines I have been given Kirkby / West Broughton and Kirby Ireleth.
Are all these one and the same place or area?
Being here in West Yorkshire I would really like to try and find the place where Margaret Ann died and maybe even find if and where she was buried.

Here's hoping :)

Hopefully this is a link to a 1919 map which includes both Woodland Station and Woodland Grove - to the north east of Broughton on Furness  http://maps.nls.uk/view/101100767#zoom=4&lat=3985&lon=4089&layers=BT

Woodland Grove is still there on aerial photographs   http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sidebyside.cfm#zoom=17&lat=54.3083&lon=-3.1565&layers=171&right=BingHyb   If you zoom out you can see how it relates to the area.   A photo of the property at Woodland Grove from a planning application  http://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/swiftlg/TempMedia/62695-213068.pdf

Good Morning Kay,
Thank you so much for your post.  I was thinking Woodland Grove was a road of houses / cottages, not a small group of cottages almost in the middle of nowhere! Those links are brilliant.
We are hoping to have a trip to the area soon and so now, hopefully, I may be able to get a feel for the area.
Thank you again.
