Hi, I'm new to RootsChat so bare with me as I learn (fumble) my way through this.
I am looking for information on my GG grandparents James McGlinchey and Annie Coll. They married in Ballybofey on 21st Oct 1868 and had 12 children. I believe 3 of their children Denis McGlinchey, Susan McGlinchey and Anne McGlinchey emigrated to USA at different times. According to the marriage certificate of James and Annie my GGG grandfather was also James McGlinchey and my other GGG grandfather was John Coll. If anyone has any information on the families I would love to know more. Thanks

1901 Census

This will help anyone searching with birth years etc.
Unfortunately I don't have time just now.

1911 Census
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Stranorlar/Navenny_Street/509746/
Annie is now a widow, which probably explains the move to Navenny and it give you where in Scotland James was born which could prove very handy as Scottish records tend to have more information than most I think.

Thanks Sinann, your information has been very helpful. I have found out that my great grandfather was Charles McGlinchey, (spelt McGlinshy on birth record) he was born in Ballybofey on 16 Sept. 1869. He married Catherine Ward (daughter of Bernard Ward and Annie Lafferty) on 15 Nov 1893 in Ballybofey. They moved to Coatbridge Scotland as my grandfather James was born in Coatbridge, Scotland on 30 May 1898. My grandfather James (aged 2) is on the 1901 Ireland census living with his grandparents, James and Annie. His parents Charles and Catherine are on the Scottish census in 1901. What I am now confused about is the 1911 census. Grandfather James is on both the Scottish and Irish census. Any thoughts on why this would be???

That is a puzzle. I thought perhaps the two Census may have been taken on different dates and he traveled over in the meantime but looking up the dates both were taken April 2nd.
Perhaps his parents said they had a son and the enumerator listed him thinking they meant he was there, this would seem more likely than his grandmother putting down a grandchild who wasn't living with her.
I guess the only way to know for sure would be a school record but if any even survive might be difficult to discover.

I only see 2 James McGlinchey in the 1901, young James and his grandfather so this maybe of interest, a James McGlinchey died 12 Dec 1909 Farmer Ballybofey, probate was granted to James Quinn and Patrick Hannigan

Thanks Sinann, I think the probate must be for my GG grandfather James as he is not on the 1911 census but his wife Ann is on the 1911 census as 'widowed'. Not sure why the probate would be granted to 2 other people when his wife was still alive. Interesting!!!
Appreciate all your help ;)

It is only the Probate they did... doesn't mean they inherited.

Since the Will was probated in Londonderry then PRONI should have a copy of the Will and probably some of the paperwork to do with the estate (details and usefulness varies).

Thanks hallmark and aghadowey you have both provided useful information. I will continue my search.

Patrick Hannigan is my Grand Uncle - They turned up in the Hansard - the record of Westminster Parliament - http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/written_answers/1921/feb/23/arrests#S5CV0138P0_19210223_CWA_40
Michael is my GrandDad - they both married Boyle's from Rutland Island off the coast of Burtonport.
A third girl married a McGlinchey boy.
Most houses on Rutland are now owned by some class of Boyle, Hannigan or McGlinchey!
They are all holiday homes.
Hope that helps
