Title: GRO 1839 Marriages March quarter 1839 Charles MAPPIN
Post by: My Nana on Friday 15 April 16 22:03 BST (UK)
Please will anyone look up whether Charles MAPPIN married Hannah CRESWICK or  Hannah HINCHLIFFE

GRO ref: Marriages Mar 1839  Charles MAPPIN    married Sheffield    22   413
either   Hannah  CRESWICK      or  Hannah  HINCHLIFFE

nb. As the marriage is in the March quarter it is just possible that it actually took place in the last six weeks of 1838.
Yours very hopefully
Strow

Doesn't appear to have been transcribed.

Looks like purchase of a GRO certificate will be required.

The page range for this quarter is 353-419.

The number you quote is at the end of the range which are typically but not exclusively registrar attended or register office marriages. The first numbers in the range are the Anglican churches, follwed by Quakers, Jewish and then the registrar ones.

Unless you can find a mention of them in a newspaper, birth cert for a child which will contain her maiden name or they have her family members with them in later censuses you'll have to buy the certicate from the GRO.

Unlike births there is no period of grace for registration of a marriage, it is recorded in the quarter it occurred, therefore the marriage you are interested in must have taken place in 1839.

Hi

If you use the Marriage locator website, and fill in the details it does say the marriage took place at Sheffield St. Peter and St. Paul

The Sheffield Iris for 2 Apr 1839 lists two of the marriages represented on that index page:

William MARSH  and Mary Ann CROOKES
Edward BUXTON and Hannah HINCHLIFFE

...which suggests Charles MAPPIN married Hannah CRESWICK

The above two marriages took place on Sunday 31 March (which was Easter Sunday)

The church isn't named.
