I have a copy of a baptism for my Great Great Great Grandmother Elizabeth Jones, baptised 1st January 1809 in Llanfrechfra gives parents as James Jones and Martha (surname unknown) I am looking to find more information on her parents and where they came from in Wales. Just to add would love to know where James Jones and Martha ?? were married and the date.
Elizabeth Jones Married George Smith 27 August 1825 Panteg Parish Church. Would like to know if this is the actual name of the Church.
Appreciate any help with the above.

Thanks for the name of the parish church in Panteg and no I don't yet have Elizabeth and George on any censuses or Elizabeth's parents James and Martha. I would welcome any help with this, would be nice to find out if Elizabeth had any siblings.

Hi Eliz, There is a Marriage for a James Jones to Martha Drake in Chepstow Monmouthshire on the 1 March 1813, at the time they were both living in Chepstow,it is a transcript so there is no other info, best wishes Rowley

which of George & Elizabeth's children are you descended from? Do you have this person on a census? If not, how have you traced Elizabeth to Llanfrechfa?

Hi I am descended from Elizabeth and George Smith's son John Smith born about 1826 in Annyoy, Wales, as noted in England 1851 aged 25, on this census as his parents had moved to County Durham. His siblings on the 1851 census were twins Martha and Mary aged 20 born in Pontypool.
Also to add I was given the details of Elizabeth Jones baptism by a relative. I then found an image of it on FindMyPast
Because of the information stating that Elizabeth was from Port Newydd I decided to start finding out more information about her family in Wales, as I knew nothing more about her, including her children being born in Wales interested me.

I think that must be the family. In 1851 the place of birth for John is Annyoy - Cwmyoy possibly and for Elizabeth Pontnewydd - Pontnewynydd probably.
The census has James Jones Smith on the scan and George senior is also born in county.

meant to say I can't see baptisms in Monmouthshire for any of the children born there.

Thank you for finding this 1851 Census and yes it looks like the right family, and about the marriage my relative has just got back to me who originally told me about Elizabeth Jones, and thinks her mother's maiden name was Martha Evans but not a 100% sure.. so would welcome any help with this. The marriage noted below does look as if this couple could be Elizabeth Jones's parents marriage information. Are you able to find out further information on Martha's family and her family background from Trevethin. This would be really good to know. I will check out further censuses with James and Martha and their family in it. Thank you very much for finding this 1851 census. I am also keen to know what happened to John Jones, their son and Elizabeth Jones brother.

I've had a hunt around for John Jones, it's not an uncommon name, to say the least, and I can't identify one for sure as the son of James & Martha. If that is the correct family, you'd expect there to be more children in between, but no obvious baptisms. Parish records for the area have coverage on FreeReg & DustyDocs.
I did find a possible burial for Martha
Martha Jones 80 buried in the parish church of Llanfihangel Pontymoel 5 April 1863, abode Albion Terrace, Pontypool.
There's also a possible older sister for Elizabeth, Sarah bp 25 Jan 1807 in Panteg. There had been another daughter to the couple also called Sarah bp 9 Jan 1806, but no obvious burial.

It would be good if this was my Martha's burial record, thanks for finding Elizabeth's siister Sarah's baptism, 1807 and also a Sarah in 1806. I will have a look and see if I can find anything on John Jones, and did wonder if James and Martha had any other children..as the family in the 1851 census living in the Trevethin area maybe the family lived in surrounding villages prior to this and might have had children baptised in other areas.. maybe..

I was checking the parishes in the Pontypool area for other children rather than just searching one parish. Also, using FreeReg allows you to search nearby parishes

It could be that the James & Martha in 1841 are a coincidence. With no occupation given on Elizabeth's baptism, and her marriage before civil registration, there's nothing to check against apart from age & place of birth.

Thanks osprey for getting back in touch and can understand the difficulty in that the marriage is before civil registration and not being able to check against information on a copy of a marriage record.
The 1841 census looks like the right family so think will add this to my family.
Thanks for the link the map of Monmouthshire showing all the parishes, really appreciate this, and in looking at other parishes on FreeReg and I had thought that you might check nearby villages / parishes in case the family might be living there.
