I am trying to find a marriage for Freda Burchmore nee Howells. She married Percy Burchmore in 1939 then in 1953 she appears to leave the uk on board the Umengi bound for Port Natal Durban. After that she disappears until she marries Sandor Csiba in 1964 in the Durham area of England. The records show her surname as now Tal ;)landa. Her death in 1980 is also registered under the surname Talanda. Rumour has it that she went to South Africa and had a child there. Then she must have returned. If any one can help confirm if she married and even better if she did have a child. ;) ThanksHelene

Port Natal is now called Durban. Unfortunately I cannot find a marriage or a divorce. The only Talanda that could possibly fit the bill is this one. Unfortunately the estate is not on line, but can be ordered through eggsa.org.
DEPOT NAB
SOURCE MSCE
TYPE LEER
SYSTEM 01
REFERENCE 137/1966
PART 1
DESCRIPTION TALANDA, AUGUST WILHELM JOSEPH. BORN IN CUNDY CLEUGH, NATAL.
DIVORCED. DECEASED ESTATE.

Possibly a long shot, but hope that this helps.

Thank you for that it is strange that she married back in the uk but kept the talanda surname
-
Perhaps she divorced and reverted back to her previous married name....
-
Yes I think that is probably what happened

Hello, Paul Burchmore was born on Feb. 25, 1954 in Durban South Africa. Freda Howells was his mother and Mr. Csiba was his step father. Paul now lives in the US. He told me to let you know he has his birth certificate. I am helping him research his family. Are you a relative?
Cynthia

I found this story on the net. My great grandfather: Josef Talanda & his brother came out to Africa, escaping a very dominant father. He wanted his sons to follow in his footsteps and have a good civil career in the AustroHungarian Empire. This meant 13years of a military career first. They convinced their father to grant them permission to study the English language. My great grandfather; Josef Wilhelm Talanda died in Republic Of South Africa. his middle brother Johann (died in German South West Africa/Namibia) and their youngest brother Alois Talanda is buried in the Czech Republic-Uh. Haradiste). They had 3 sisters. 2 where married in once Yoguslavia, 1 in north of Czech Rep. All traces of the sisters disappeared with the end of the II World War. Hi Thanks for the Talanda link it makes interesting reading.

Johann Talanda came out aboard the German ship Adolph Woermann via Antwerp and Southampton on the 6th December 1910.This seems to have been a troop ship (See note below the list of passengers). No names are ever shown, just the numbers (209 in total on this voyage.)
All these troops were reinforcement for the German troops (Schutztruppe) in German South West Africa. The link is https://www.immigrantships.net/v18/1900v18/adolphwoermann19101130_01.html was he killed during WW1 in South West Africa?

Hello to all interested in the Talanda (hi)story.
Though not bearing their name I am a living ancestor of the above-mentioned Talanda Alois who was the only one of three brothers who remained in Czechia. Particularly my grandmother is the daughter of Alois' son. I am still living in Czechia so if you have any questions regarding the Czech branch let me know, my granny is still alive I can ask. But unfortunately as I just recently realised about Talanda African branch I have no clue to whom Mrs. Howells married. Long way ahead.
So I would really appreciate it if someone knows more about the Talanda family in Africa. The story above seems to be based on the truth but to be honest it appears to me as quite an exaggerated one. After all, personally I do not think that cruelty of their father led them to leave Czechia to Africa. This was not that common voyage in my country as far as I know. And I would say cruel fathers (let's say conservative, especially catholics) were absolutely normal here. There should be something more. So far as I know the family is pretty down-to-earth, at least my Talanda branch. Anyway, Granny sometimes states that the surname is too weird, she tells me that her father always proposed that it comes from Spain (from some village). No proof for that.
To be honest I was focusing on different parts of my family roots, but this motivates me to research more. So far I can say that I could trace them until the middle of the 18th century.

An interesting story so far.
Just wondering if anyone has any information on the family of Freda Howells?
"Freda Burchmore nee Howells. She married Percy Burchmore in 1939' as per the #1.
I have an interest in the Howells of Herefordshire and just wondering where Freda's family hailed from?
cheers
