Title: Galbraiths of Down
Post by: billpg on Sunday 03 April 16 15:20 BST (UK)
Especially, Joseph Galbraith b. 1746 who sailed from Belfast for Charleston (Charles Town), arriving on the Admiral Hawke on Dec 28, 1767.  Father was likely James,  Joseph m. Martha b. 1753 daughter to Margaret People (v. spellings) from the same vessel, c1774.

Finding clues as to whereabouts the Galbraith are living in Co Down I quickly exracted the entries below from Ros Davies Co Down website’s surname index, up to about 1819. The privilege of using her free website is that these entries are not free for any commercial use. her website is  http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/

The index is by civil parish which also is the only way into early church records if they exist and again Rod Davies has a churches section which usally list under each church what exists. The microfilm if note will be the PRONI. Belfast. If you are unused to civil parishes download Ros “s parishes map for Co Down  aand mark it up as you master.[Theses differ in the major denominations so thats why the civil helps one.

so any of these could have left via Belfast.

You also run the risk someone else is doing the research so I went to see if I could pick up any of your names on Genes Reunited but sadly no is the answer, ancestry is a must as is familysearch etc
It wont be easy getting connections of your early emmigrants, but you must try., using all sources eg PRONI Belfast ,
ancestryireland, com have births starting in 1777, marriages 1788 which shows the problems if irish records.
Good luck
