Title: How can I obtain information from the State Archives of Ticino, Switzerland?
Post by: Ross2014 on Friday 01 April 16 23:43 BST (UK)
Hello, All,

I've previously posted about ancestors from Losone, Ticino that I'd like to get more information about (see post called "Losone, Ticino, Switzerland - ZANOLA Family puzzle" - http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=744604.0 ).

This is them from the 1817 Church Census from Losone:
Antonus ZANOLA.....50
Maria........................35
Joanna Maria............8
Maria Jacoba............5
Joannes....................1

I'm waiting for some more Church records to arrive, but I've also found another source that may be my best bet for the information I want. The State Archives of Ticino in Bellinzona list the following resource is available (see http://www4.ti.ch/fileadmin/DECS/DCSU/AC/AS/Documenti/ricerche_genealogiche.pdf):
Census of 1824 - recorded, both for men and for women, the name, surname, date of birth and the name of both parents.

Can anyone suggest how to obtain the 1824 Census information to further my research? Unfortunately, travel to Switzerland isn't an option and I don't believe the Archives undertake research for this sort of thing.

Thanks,
Ross

Have you contacted the Archives to ask whether they can supply the information you are seeking? Alternatively, are there professional researchers you could use to get this information?

I haven't contacted the Archives, but I have read on their web site that they don't do research of this nature. I suppose I could ask them anyway and see what they suggest.

Does anyone know of a list of professional researchers in Ticino that might be able to get access?

I had a similar issue with the Catholic Archives in Saskatchewan. Their website said no research, but when I sent a polite email detailing what I was after, as well as where I was from in the world, I received a reply that they had looked for me, but the information I wanted was not there.

And the Archives may be able to suggest a researcher.

Thanks, I'll send something to the Archives and see what they say. Hopefully they can suggest someone who can help even if they can't.
