Title: GGGGrandfather TOWNSEND / BAILEY
Post by: steve247 on Tuesday 29 March 16 17:38 BST (UK)
Hi new to Roots Chat would love for somebody to help me:
I'm trying to find a Maria Townsend formerly Bailey born 1800 Norfolk married to Henry Townsend born 1820 Stratton Gloucs . I have them  both on 1851 census along with George Townsend my GGGrandfather and a Harry Townsend.
Struggling to find the marriage and the deaths of both Henry and Maria.
Thanks Steve

Hi

Welcome to rootschat

Does Maria's maiden name come from one of the childrens birth registrations.  Is it possiblethat she was previously married.

In 1851 the family are in Kensington;

Henry aged 37 born Stratton, Glouc.
Maria aged 51 b Norfolk
George 4 b Kensington
Harry 1 b Kensington

If she had been previously married both former names should be shown BUT may not have been. She would have married with her 'married' name. That was my first thought in view of the age difference - although from the census in 1851 - it's 14 years and not 20 years difference.

Pennines - your 1851 census result says Maria is born Norfolk
do you think this may be her as Mary ??....the only one I can find

It could well be Garstonite - Maria/Mary are often interchangeable (so to speak!)

There is a Maria Townsend buried in 1854 at Holy Trinity, Brompton. Address-- her address, Camden St Kensington. However her age looks like 34 = but I'm wondering if this should be 54. Worth bearing in mind for her possible death.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

Just a thought, 51 is quite old (but not impossible) to have a 2 year old child. Maybe the 1851 census was wrongly transcribed from the original enumeration form and Maria was really 31. That would fit with the death of a 34 year old Maria TOWNSEND in 1854.

Regards,
Daisy
