Maybe I've missed an announcement of a "free weekend" on Ancestry....
Looks like they're giving us an Easter treat!
:)

That is a nice Easter treat, does Ancestry have up to date electoral registers as do FindMyPast?

I don't think so, but they have older electoral registers from London (up to 1965 I think), Surrey, West Midlands, West Yorkshire.... and probably some other areas I've forgotten!

Yet again, it leaves me wondering why bother with a subscription to the two major sites. It would be interesting to see just how many free or reduced days they give away during a year.

I'm with you there groom.... I've not subscribed to Ancestry for ages now, and every time they do a free weekend it just saves me money to spend on a SEAX subscription!

Thank you for that info, I was looking for someone outside of London, 2003

I've never had a subscription to either of those sites, too expensive from this side, but when the freebies are on offer I make full use of them and there are at least a few each year. This time it gives me a chance to have a look at the South African records they have ;D ;D

Between the free weekends and library access, I've got a LOT out of Ancestry in the past few months without having to subscribe.
Making the most of the electoral rolls this weekend... Helps me to pin down when/where people died, with the help of the 1939 register.

Only just found out about this. Pushing it back up the page.

Is there a code as I'm being asked to subscribe with only the usual choices....nothing about the freebie?

Can't see one. I've just looked on their FB page and someone said it's not working. If they are asking you to register, I wonder if that means it won't accept anyone who has used it before?
This is from FB
Wendy Reid: How is it 'free access' when the site demands registration and credit/debit card details to go any further than the 'preview'? why not free access to the birth/death record with just an email address?
Ancestry
Ancestry Hi Wendy, our apologies for any confusion. In order to access the free databases you will need to sign up for a free guest account, no credit card information needed. Once you have a free guest account you will want to click on the link provided above to then access the free access database. To further that, with a free guest account you can also access any of the free databases on the site. You will find a link to all the free databases in the attached article. http://bit.ly/1fAd22P

At bottom of the page on the link I posted
'*Access to the records in the featured collections will be free until 28 March, 2016 at 23:59 BST. To view these records you will need to register for free with Ancestry.co.uk with your name and email address. We will then send you a username and password to access the records. After the free access period ends, you will only be able to view the records in the featured collections using an Ancestry.co.uk paid membership. To see a full list of the records in the featured collections please click here.'
