Can anyone please decipher what my relative was charged with ,I get up to "did allow one ???? his property to wander on the public road "
Sorry cant attach picture .. too big
-
presumably some sort of farm animal
-
I would guess at cattle too. I have many ancestors in killashee longford who split land between themselves and then proceeded to fall out with each other over wandering cattle. Many of my lot in court being fine over 'did let one goat/cow wander into property of....'

As said already usually cow, horse, donkey or similar.
Sometimes people were grazing the 'long acre', that is allowing animals to graze the grass on the road side verge, free grass but illegal.

One pig to wander lonely as a cloud.

Thanks I did think this myself .I think it may say pig. As it does look like a dotted I in the middle of the short word .Whatever it was he was fined 1 shilling !!

;D that was a good guess then without even seeing the word!
