hi all
this is a picture of my grandparents (middle Couple, nana to the right) all people in the pic are dec'd by now - this must be a wedding perhaps as the men are wearing button flowers , but whose wedding ? not theirs as nana isnt wearing a wedding dress , or maybe it is their wedding and thats how they dressed . Its just after WW1 as a rough estimate and perhaps these are bridesmaides but why the ladies are wearing suits, maybe this was the fashion. What is grandad wearing across his left shoulder?
the man to the left is wearing a wedding ring - and the two men to the left and right have carnations but not my grandfather. incredibly i still have grandads silver pocket watch in my glass display cabinet that he wears here.
I would also love to have some colour to the pic if this is at all possible .
many thanks

A clean up to start you off...maybe your granddad just lost the head off his carnation and what you see is left is the greenery....many people got married in costumes similar to this during this period as there was a shortage of materials just after the war... white wedding dresses didn't became widely worn until the 1920s or even later. I think it is likely that it could be a double wedding and the extra man is the Best Man....Two men with a bow tie and one with an ordinary tie could be the best man.

my son has just pointed out to me that the man our right is this man here - as his face is the same
what do you think ?
-
Yes I would say it's the same man.
Carol
-
yes I mean our left (their right ) i get mixed up between left and rights esp as the kids were talking to me same time
-
Yes I knew what you meant...the guy left as you look at the photo.

Thought the man on the right (with the tie) and the woman seated beside him look alike - wondered if they could be related. Perhaps its just because their expressions seem so similar.
Just a thought :)

Wow thanks Martin thats amazing !! My son and I love it so much .

My grandparents wedding photo is very similar to this in the way the bride/s are dressed and they were married in 1925. I also think that it looks like a double wedding but my photo had the bridesmaids in similar suits to the bride and with equally big bouquets.

Martin have sent a copy of this lovely pic to my sister - hope thats ok . i now know that the man on the far right is my grand uncle and the brother to the lady (nan) as ive just seen another picture of him on ancestry but this time at his daughters wedding in 1935 and he looks few years older - i am now contacting the tree owner -

Yes of course its fine.
-
Hi.......Another colour version for you in a frame.
Carolyn :)

I would suggest the lady on the left is the bride as the lady to the right has different flowers ? I have wedding photos in this era and many ladies wore plain dresses or their best suit with a corsage or a pretty hat.Bridesmaids back then also seemed to have huge bouquets as well as the bride.

hi many thanks for the pic s -
Geraldine thanks also - i have managed to edentify the occasion - this is my nanas wedding the one in the middle , her bridesmaid was called Doris Hamer - the one to out left James Scholes , (witness) and grandad John Scholes, (these two are brothers but although they dont look alike they are !) then the bride seated my nana and the person to the far right is her older brother Andrew Hamer b 1877 - who is also father to Doris born 1902 - nana has a larger bouquet as well and johns button hole is different also her has a posher suit i think
