Hi thanks for that this seems like it could be the same person. I have only just received his daughters marriage certificate and never knew his name until now. Just need some info from the census to make sure it's the right person. Also the writing is quite hard to make out but his occupation was slate ????.

John Arthur Kelwick is a Builders Slater in 1901. Elizabeth is with him in Attercliffe - Sheffield.
Son Fred is also a builders slater and son John A Kelwick an apprentice slater. There are 4 other children but no mention of a Hannah.

Just to confuse matters, the 1891 census living Bridlington

On the 1861 Census John A Kelwick has a brother Walter W Kelwick. Might explain why Hannah is with a Walter W Kelwick in 1891. Is she as the 1891 census suggests Walter's daughter or as Laura's marriage cert suggests John's?

Hi thanks for the replys, I had always thought from previous census info I had that Walter was Hannah's father but since I received her marriage certificate I found it to be John Arthur Kelwick. Does anyone have access to the British newspaper archives as I searched John Arthur Kelwick and his name came up but I am unable to view as I don't have a subscription.
Thanks

Hi, found 2 entries
from The Huddersfield Daily Chronicle of November 1876, under the heading of "Partnerships Dissolved".
John Arthur Kelwick & Joseph Day, slaters, Kingston upon Hull.
from The Yorkshire Herald dated 23/8/1894 under the heading "Disgraceful Conduct of Parents"
"At the Hull court yesterday, John Arthur Kelwick and Elizabeth his wife, were summoned at the instance of the NSPCC for neglecting their child, Henry, aged one year and eight months. When their house in William's Terrace, Waller Street was visited, it was found to be in a filthy condition. The child had been greatly neglected, and was in a shockingly filthy condition. The female defendant admitted having been committed for 30 days for a similar offence in 1891. Both defendants were sent to prison for six weeks with hard labour."

From "The Hull Packet and East Riding Times" dated 26/2/1886
"Fraudulent removal of goods"
"At the Hull Police court on Tuesday, J.A.Kelwick of Drypool, slater, was brought up on a charge of having fraudulently removed goods from 16 Beaumont Street, in July 1883, to avoid distress. A warrant had been granted at that time, but until this week no arrest had been effected. Mr Herbert Woodhouse appeared on the behalf of the complainant, Mr George Jackson, of Witham, and stated that as the friends of the prisoner had that day satisfied all claims against him he should offer no further evidence, and asked for the prisoner's discharge, which was granted"
